"Molecular agitation,

FLAME!"
FWOOM!
Maya coughed up some smoke and eyed the unlighted candle in her hand. Her other hand brushed soot off of herself. "Are you sure about this Doctor?"
"It should work," said Ritsuko Akagi, catgirl white sorceress. "Though technically I'm always going to be better with White Magic as opposed to Black Magic like Flame."
"Ah," agreed Maya. "That's why you keep hitting me with those."
"I'm just trying to get my experience up to where I can cast a second level spell. We'll need something like Cure Poison or Minor Healing before we go much further," argued Ritsuko.
Gendo frowned. "What do you mean you can't find Doctor Akagi, Ibuki, or Rei? Find them." He clicked off his intercom and considered the "Tree Of Life" decorations on his floor.
"Maybe SEELE is up to something?" Fuyutsuki asked, implying that they might have learned something.
"Doubtful," disagreed Gendo Ikari. "If they knew anything they wouldn't respond in such a manner. More like sending armed divisions in."
Fuyutsuki frowned. "Then what? Fishing for information?"
Gendo nodded after a moment. "I would expect more subtlety - and if they've discarded their own pawn we have no further use for him."
Fuyutsuki made a little sound of agreement. They'd only had him around briefly, and as far as he could see, both Kaji and NERV Japan would be best served by returning the scruffy spy back to Germany.
Gendo waited for his subordinate to give the appropriate order and then stood up. "Rei may be somewhere the sensors are less accessible. I shall be in Terminal Dogma."
"That's odd," said Fuyutsuki. "The sensors in the final level seem to have cut out."
"Have the Magi run an analysis on the situation," ordered Gendo. "Keep me apprised."
Unnoticed, for the moment by either of the two, Rei's location in the parking garage was suddenly flagged on a monitor.
"So until someone figures out what's going on, nobody goes anywhere alone," explained Misato as the three of them walked towards their car. "I was going to team up you two but..."
"I objected," said Asuka. "It was bad enough doing that dance routine and look how that ended up."
"Come on, that was a whole day ago, when are you just going to let it be!" Shinji whined.
"Right. Frankly, Asuka, I'm not sure you'd be up to guarding Shinji," began Misato.
"Excuse me?! Not up to it?!" Asuka asked. "Do my delicate ears deceive me?"
"There's something delicate about you?" Shinji blurted. "Uh oh. Uhm. Sorry?"
"You're very sorry all right," said Asuka, who had thought that maybe for a moment weenie boy had started growing a spine. Wishful thinking. "Sorriest pilot I've ever met."
"What's wrong with spending time together?" Shinji asked. "It'll blow over soon, right Misato?"
"I have no idea," admitted Misato. "Instead, I don't think Shinji could hit the broad side of a barn when he's not in an Eva. Frankly Asuka, you're a little too trigger-happy for me to issue you a gun."
Asuka grumbled about it.
"So neither of you are going out of my sight," said Misato. "I'd have gotten Rei to pair off with Shinji but Rei's vanished."
"I'm right here," said a soft voice.
"WAAHHHHHHH!"
Everyone looked to the ceiling.
"Shinji, how did you get up there?" Asuka finally asked, a little impressed that Shinji had managed to leap up and grab one of the support beams of the parking garage.
"I'm not sure," admitted Shinji.
"Well get down here. We can pair off after all," said Misato with some relief. "Where were you, Rei?"
"Secret mission," said the ninja catgirl in her disguise as a normal Rei.
"The Commander does do that a lot," agreed Misato. "Yeesh. If I were a conspiracy nut I'd be seeing them all over the place in this organization."
Rei said nothing and sat in the back next to Shinji, letting Asuka have the front seat.
"Okay, someone'll have to stick with you in your apartment tonight Rei, leaving me to pair up with the other." Misato pulled her car out into traffic as she thought. "Until they figure out what's going on. I think it would work best if you were partnered with:"
