"Who?" asked the Third Child, "Me?"
"Yes, you. I did say that I would prefer that you team with her."
"But why him?" demanded Asuka.
"Because I'd rather not have the two who partnered too busy getting into arguements to notice what's going on."
"And so you just let him go and stay with that doll? Who knows what might happen."
"You've been considering those possibilities?"
"Of course! So wouldn't it be best to have us all in one place to make sure that it doesn't happen?"
The Major shook her head. "That would only put all the targets in one place, which would let whatever it is get us with a single shot."
"Then I have to stay at Rei's apartment?" asked Shinji.
"For the time being, yes. Or at least until we can find out what's been happening and prevent it."
"Just great," the redhead huffed and sat back in her seat with her arms crossed over her chest.
Rei just stayed silent, as things were going well enough as it was. With Shinji in her apartment, she could keep him occupied while the others did their tasks. And when it was time, they would be able to have him ready to find out.
In the meantime, she just had to allay their suspicions while:
