Thieves and Ninjas: A Fortunate Find? [Episode 61586]

by Thrythlind

Kuno sat in the tavern with a grim and foreboding expression. His back was straight and his body was calm. He was the very picture of samurai stoicism.

For a few moments at least.

"Tavern-keeper!" he demanded. "I require my meal, instantly!"

"Yes, milord," the tavern-keeper said in a craven manner. "It is coming just now."

The young man carried a katana, somewhat illegal in this day and age, and certainly a dangerous marker. The tavern keeper approached the young man cautiously and laid the meal upon the table before backing away quickly as Kuno set to eat.

The samurai set to arrogantly enjoy his meal as a man sat down beside him, at first unnoticed by Kuno.

"You're seeking the Foxes aren't you?" the man asked.

"Foxes?" Kuno asked. "What do you mean?"

"The women that did those murders some years ago," the man continued. "They're called the Foxes, for their similarity to those creatures of myth that would take female form to wreak havoc on the world of mortals."

"Oh, yes," Kuno said, his mind following a predictable, for any that might know him, path. "I see, that explains everything."

"I think I might have heard where one might be," the man said next.

"What?" Kuno declared standing up and looming over the other man. "Give me this information this instant."

"There is the matter of payment," the other said in a rush, surprised at the sudden change of manner.

"I'll pay you your life if you don't tell me," Kuno declared.
