Auntie Nabiki was having her baby, and the event was proving to be quite loud. The children weren't altogether sure of the details of the situation, nor did they suspect they wanted to at the moment. All they knew was that the baby, which had been growing in Auntie Nabiki's stomach for quite some time, was coming out and apparently it was bringing a lot of pain with it.
Elder Cologne was in the hut, and they hadn't seen her since the birth had started, but Master Tarou was kept running to and fro between the hut and their herb cellar. His face looked progressively more worried as time went on and that had both Aoshi and Kitsune concerned.
It had been dark when Nabiki had first begun to cry out, and it was nearing noon now. Kitsune had climbed a tree near the hut and was sitting in the branches watching and listening with trepidation as Aoshi nervously ran over his katas below her.
"Auntie Nabiki is going to be all right, right?" she asked her older brother.
"Yeah, sure she is," Aoshi said, without a second thought, though a tightness about his mouth suggested that he believed otherwise.
It was another hour later when Nabiki's shouts and cries had died down and Cologne walked out.
"Elder Cologne," Kitsune called out, dropping nimbly from the branch and passing swiftly towards the elder. "Is everything fine now?"
