However before he could even get up to his feet, or even ask where Ranko's house was, that rather...disturbing woman came back into the room with a tray of tea and some cakes as well. It wasn’t that Kasumi was evil or anything, but anyone who could break his arm in more than one place without even realizing it with a smile on her face and a metaphorical song in her heart would set anyone on edge. “Why Mister Diggers you didn’t have to get up,” she said before sitting down next to him and placing a cup right in front of the mage.
Kasumi kept up her best image as she put herself next to the delicious looking hunk of man…err her guest and made another pass around his figure with her eyes. Oh yes, he definitely was a keeper. Now, all she needed to do was introduce him to father and after a brief but proper courting period, maybe two or three days, they could get hitched and start the honeymoon.
‘Ok, this is a little too weird’ Nabiki thought as she outright stared at the scene in front of her.
Akane’s reaction to Ranma, Nabiki guessed she could understand; Akane was a fan of Ranma’s written works (the thought of Ranma writing books was stunning enough in itself but this put it over the top) and he was now a couple years older than her. Thus gaining him Dr. Tofu level admiration status in her mind.
Kasumi’s reaction…well that one just came out of nowhere and left Nabiki stunned. Even as her sister sat there, mentally undressing Ranma no less by the way she was studying him, she still had a hard time believing it. This wasn’t some everyday person from another part of Tokyo where just a few monsters and giant whatever’s ran amok, this was Kasumi! If a demon came to dinner to steal her soul she would offer it tea and rice crackers with a smile on her face for crying out loud! But instead of the overly naive demi-housewife that she was used to, Nabiki was seeing a gleefully giggling girl with…oh geeze she was about to have another nose bleed.
Needing to do something fast before things reached critical Nabiki decided to try and turn her sister’s attention to a different subject other than Ranma’s looks or (shudder) hopeful future sex life. “So Diggers,” she said to get Ranma to look up at her from his tea; which he was eyeing kind of skeptically for some reason. “Are you a novelist full time or do you just do that as a side job? I mean, writing is good for quick cash and all but I’d hardly say it provides a stable financial future.”
‘Oh my she’s right’ Kasumi thought as Nabiki’s words rang in her head. Even if this prime hunk of man was incredibly yummy, Kasumi DID have a responsibility to find someone who could support a family.
Akane just continued reading the notes the man had left her. She didn’t know what brought that on from Nabiki all of a sudden, but she really didn’t care. A good a writer as Diggers-san could always come up with plenty of great ideas.
“Well actually I’m studying criminology,” Ranma told her while looking over to the younger girl and away from the stuff in his cup. He wasn’t an expert on foods or anything, but Ranma was pretty sure tea wasn’t supposed to be black and have pieces of glass floating in it. “The books are uh, just really an on the side thing I do in my spare time.”
"Really," Kasumi said in a brief moment where she had escaped from her daze to see if this really was the man she should be going ga ga over. "Isn't that a little dangerous? Being a policeman I mean." She couldn't have her husband dying and leaving her to take care of the kids after all.
"Well actually I'm planning on more of a background role," Ranma told her. "Like forensics or something around that area. He wasn't about to tell them his real plans.
Ranma’s words were all Kasumi needed to hear. Not only was he a oh so good looking specimen of man meat, but he was getting an upstanding job in the community without the usual danger. There was no way she was letting this one escape!
The mage in question winced as he felt something clamp onto his hand with a level of force he was more accustomed to from a hug by his sister, mother, or some other super strong girl he knew. That, combined with the giddy fan on his left that gave his those looks he was more accustomed to seeing in one of his mother’s students, and the overall nervous and confused aura surrounding Nabiki as she seemed to look at him like his sister did when she found some new puzzle made Ranma feel like a cornered animal.
‘I could really use something to get me out of this just about now’ he thought a second before.
