Pocket Hole/Tarre: Just a very rare Chinese lizard-dog [Episode 63880]

by Kestral

Tarre didn't understand any of this.

Okay, she did understand a few things.

Thanks to the Notgoblin Ranrumra, she now knew that "Sit" meant to sit on her haunches, "Stay" meant to stay put, "Fetch" was some sort of game that she deliberately did not get, though she did rather enjoy the bit where her Ranrumra would hold onto a piece of rope and she'd try to pull it from his grip. At least until she bit the rope in half.

Learning attacks though - she could remember the goblins and grin evilly at the thought of running into them at the side of her warrior. She knew "Sic' em" meant to bite and she was working on her tail-lash and breath weapon. She just had to be careful. It wouldn't do to hit her Ranrumra.

She had hissed in uncertainty at Ranrumra's change in a cold stream but his scent was largely the same and therefore something she could deal with.

It was magic of some kind, and that made it intriguing.

Meanwhile, her Ranrumra had been feeding her and her own metabolism had been kicking into overdrive.

When they'd arrived, she had been barely two feet long - and a foot of that had been tail!

After visiting the place with lots of springs that Ranrumra had been so excited about, Tarre had grown to three feet in length.

By the time they reached the Chinese coastline, Tarre was four feet long and her claws were mostly grown back.

Tarre was curious as to where her Ranrumra was taking her, and the only thing she could think of was that it would be her new lair. A lair was a good thing. All dragons had one, it was part of their instinctual heritage. While blacks and certain other dragons would have secondary lairs they moved along to hunt, there was always a primary lair.

What Tarre did not realize was that as time went on and meals were shared, she had become used to her "Ranrumra" and to some extent - domesticated.

Tarre had gotten used to the human's presence so much that she dreamed one day of flying with him riding her. Or lurking in a swamp while he was in some shack like that of the portly fellow in the place-of-many-springs.

Which was why she hissed at the Notgoblins who came too close to her Ranrumra and looked out at the water as they took a ship.

The other people on board the ship took pictures of what the boy had described as a "Chinese Lizard-dog, very rare" though they were careful not to get too close or startle the beast. Especially after it ate that one camera.

Tarre had grumbled uncertainly at that but her digestive process was up to such challenges.

By the time the boat had reached Japan, Tarre was more than anxious to stretch her legs again and perhaps find a nice tree to sharpen her claws against. At least she'd managed to teach her human how to clean the damaged scales and scars so that the new scales would grow straight and strong.
