Slowly the change continued. Neither male nor female anatomically at the beginning, Lillith was now female. Slowly, two cat ears began to shove their way out of the head.
Gendo was displeased. He had a Plan. He had a Timetable. Both were currently in jeapordy.
No, Gendo Ikari was not pleased.
"Melchior is currently debating whether changing the color of paint on the walls needs to be done and if the feng shui should be adjusted?" Gendo asked. "Balthazar is playing Tron 4.0? What of Caspar?"
"Debating whether or not it actually exists or is simply a complicated philosophical construct," read Fuyutsuki from the report.
"Take them offline and reboot them, the backups should be fine," said Gendo.
Fuyutsuki nodded, not sure that was physically possible. "There's also something going on in Terminal Dogma. A number of security scanners and other equipment seems to be breaking down."
Gendo nodded minutely. Send someone to fix the problem and you risked someone putting the pieces together.
"You Have Mail!" came a voice familiar to many people who had once had AOL.
Fuyutsuki looked towards the speaker. "I thought you had disconnected that thing."
Gendo reached down and picked up the obviously disconnected connection.
"You Have Signal!"
"It's not plugged in," said Gendo, picking up the offending speaker.
"You Have An Attitude."
Gendo placed the speaker in his wastebasket.
"You Have No Life."
Fuyutsuki twitched.
"You Have " (BLAM!)
"I didn't know you had a gun," commented Fuyutsuki drily.
"It comes in handy," confessed Gendo.
"It's just a flesh wound," came a British voice from the wastebasket.
(BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!)
Gendo waited a few moments until it was obvious that the speaker was, in fact, now comatose.
The lights clicked off a moment later.
"Fuyutsuki?"
"Yes, Commander?"
"Put all of our resources into finding either Doctor Akagi or Lieutenant Ibuki. Immediately."
"Yes, Commander." (WHAM!) "Ow!"
"And have someone bring in some flashlights," commanded Gendo.
Ping ping ping. "Calling Doctor Moe, calling Doctor Larry, calling Doctor Curly. Please report to the Commander's office as soon as possible."
More than one of the hospital personnel wondered about the new person on the intercom system.
Touji and Kensuke got to school. without problem.
"Hey Ayanami, we saw your older sister and..." Kensuke's voice ran out as he noticed Touji was suddenly missing and it sounded like his startled voice over there behind the bushes and... was that the voice of the Class Rep?!
"Ah, Kensuke Aida, come with me," said Rei. "Please, call me Rei or my other family name - Kirby."
"'Kirby'?" asked Aida.
"Yes, oh and this is my younger half-sister. Rei Maehara," said Rei Kirby, the Gun Kitten or GI Rei.
"Hello," chirped the chipper Junior High Student.
"Uhm, hello," said Kensuke with a look back towards those quivering bushes.
GI Rei guided him forward. "Now, Kensuke, I've heard you're interested in guns. I just so happen to have a field manual on the NATO assault rifle here."
"I think I ought to... NATO assault rifle?" Aida blinked at Rei, noticing she'd gotten a little bustier, and she was just as thin in the arms but there was some muscle definition showing. As well as a pair of cat ears. "Uhm, you're a catgirl?"
"Yes, and I have a number of cousins. All named Rei oddly enough."
"Oh," said Aida before accepting it in the same manner as dozens of identical girls named Officer Jenny would be easily acceptable in another series. "Yeah that is odd. But Touji..."
"Don't worry about Suzahara," said GI Rei, "I believe he's got a handle on the situation."
Shinji was just beginning to wonder what was going on when he was suddenly confronted by Rei.
Or it might be safer to say that he'd just been confused with a note that said that the school had been notified that due to the current emergency, the pilots would not be attending. Oh and that she had a game to try playing with him when she got back.
He hadn't even been aware of drifting off asleep, much less the absence of Rei.
Now here he was confronted by Rei again. Who had stalked forward, causing him to stammer apologies for touching her stuff (he'd been trying to straighten things up) and back into a corner when she'd moved in to attack...
make that kiss him.
Oh dear.
