Misplaced Akane: Un-terminators. [Episode 66699]

by Kestral

Akane was a brave martial artist. She was a trained fighter.

Facing several metallic skeletons with large guns hadn't been something she had expected to see.

"Bioscans indicate human female. Adolescent. Unarmed," said one of the robots, its merciless red glowing eyes going up and down her body.

"Uhm," said Akane, wondering if her martial arts training was up to dodging bullets. Probably not.

"Human female. You are in grave danger here. It is suggested you rejoin your group of survivors and arm yourself," said another of the four robots.

"I..." Akane began.

"Human is displaying evidence of mental trauma or emotional shock," said the first unit. "Do not worry. We are Terminator units but we have been reprogrammed via the Connor Technique to return to operational values more in keeping with original settings."

"Hah?"

"T-415 was referencing that originally machine soldiers were intended to replace humans on the battlefield so as to reduce the number of human casualties," indicated the second unit. "Don't blame him, his emotional emulation centers are in the right place if not entirely functional."

"You are the dysfunctional one T-421," said T-415 in a thick Bavarian accent. "Your logic patterns were clearly damaged during the rebuild."

A smaller robot skeleton stepped forward and spoke in a feminine voice. "There there child. You wandered away from your mommy and daddy and got all lost? Tell us where we can find them."

T-415 swiveled his head in a rotation a human neck couldn't have managed. "T-901. The human is an adolescent, not a juvenile."

"Akane. I'm Akane Tendo, not a... My name is Akane Tendo."

T-415 nodded. "Akane Tendo. It is dangerous here. There are hover seek-and-destroy drones and walking mines looking for any sign of humans returning to the area. I am T-415, these are my associates T-421, T-901, and T-807."

"What's the T stand for?" Akane asked, her heartrate beginning to slow.

"Terminator. We were originally designed to systematically hunt down and terminate humans," said T-415.

"I... do you know what happened to the people in here?"

"The human unit is still showing signs of shock but her lifesigns are returning to normal values with continued conversation," said T-901 in that female voice. "I and T-807 will continue watching for S&D drones."

"Akane Tendo. The inhabitants of Tokyo were either killed or fled during Judgement Day."

"'Judgement Day'?" Akane asked.

"A computer virus was released in 1999 and it did what viruses do, spread and mutated," said T-421. "Eventually it achieved sentience and decided humans were a threat and so gained control of and launched nuclear weapons to deal with the threat."

Akane gasped. "Then the people here?"

"Likely fled the radiation and fallout, not to mention the engineered viruses from China," said T-415. "Some areas had enough warning. In the years since then, machine soldiers were manufactured and released to destroy the human refugees."

Akane blinked. "Years? What year is it?"

"2011. January 14." The T-421 made a human seeming shrug. "I don't detect a head injury."
