Cocooned Ranma: Silk Workers [Episode 67539]

by Thrythlind

All Ranma could remember was doing some shopping with...someone, he thought there were two others.

They had been almost done...or was that almost started...when they'd ran across those silent weirdos in the robes and hoods. Silk merchants or something, and Ranma had to admit that they had good quality silk. She'd been looking at it, more out of politeness than any attempt to buy anything when she'd been stung...or something.

After that...

Ranma rubbed at her head in confusion. Her multi-faceted eyes blinked as she glanced about. The room was circular and organic in appearance. Ordinarily Ranma would have felt rather creeped out by the whole thing as it looked like something out of aliens, but for some reason she felt comfortable with it.

The exit was easy to find, a doorless opening that exited into a tunnel with resinous walls that twisted off into the darkness, branching off frequently.

Ranma, her eyes not aware of the lack of light so much, glanced up and down the narrow halls, her antenna twitching, until she'd finally decided on a direction.

The tunnels were crawling with large insects of some kind. Creatures traveling to and fro up the tunnels and around her. Strangely enough, this didn't seem to bother her. She could even identify the various types and tell male from drone and female. They were like dogs, really, or sheep, but it was confusing just how she could tell this.

Ranma found a host of other cocoons, but hers seemed to be the only one open yet. And then she found it, a room filled with clear, coffin-like crystals.

Crystals each containing a body, held in sleep, or at least she hoped it was sleep. And one of the crystals quickly caught her attention, for bound within was...her...or rather him.

"What the hell is going on here?!" Ranma demanded.

****

"Contact lost with Tokyo hive," a voice noted dispassionately.

"That makes twelve hives lost," another voice said. "Killed?"

The speakers were within a darkened room lit only here and there by the occasional computer screen. Their silohuettes were hardly humanoid.

"Negative," a third indicated. "Contact cut shortly after assimilating specimen DNA. Probability that invasion hives have escaped the collective high."

"We must act while they are still confused," the second voice noted. "Rebellion cannot be tolerated."

"Analysis of specimen DNA complete," another noted. "Trace elements of Frei DNA discovered. Theory: The Frei DNA within the native populace responsible for introducing concept of free will to various hives."

"We've been here before," the first reasoned.
