Why? Because whatever had happened, however it had developed, whichever way it went - he would be blamed. Plain and simple.
At the first "Foul Sorcerer" or "Prepare to die" he was ducking and covering, cause that would just be the warning across the bow.
So here he was in a ruined Visitor's Center, beating up dinosaurs and making use of some of his father's training in Advanced Pillaging & Pilfering. Some odds and ends left behind in this place were valuable, even to Ranma's unpracticed eye. Since he would have to repay Nabiki (and with the way she stiffed him on interest - it would have doubled or tripled by the time he got back) as well as pay for any other passages he'd book (he hadn't forgotten about Akane - he was supposed to be rescuing her after all) - seeing what he could salvage was a necessary thing.
Unfortunately, he'd been taught by Genma. Nabiki would have been much better at this, if she could have avoided being munched on. Ranma ignored things like a wristwatch (Rolex) or jewelry or electronics, in order to get pocket change and a couple of expensive looking shoes.
*Boom!*
Ranma stuck his head up. That had sounded like Ryoga setting off the breaking point, except louder. Much louder.
Curious, he went to the window.
Jets went overhead and bombs were dropping. The forest was on fire.
Dinosaurs were getting slaughtered left and right, and Ranma didn't recognize the flag but he did recognize the effects of grenade launchers and automatic weapons fire.
Stuffing a pack with whatever came to hand, including a whole box of those granola bar things, Ranma decided to get away from the big target that the Visitor Center had just become.
Ryoga wept at the image in the mirror. True, he was free of being a pig, but now he was a girl. Worse than that, with one splash of cold water he would turn from Ryoga Hibiki into Beautiful Sexy Magical Warrior Sailor Star Dancer. "Waaaaah! I've got a bigger bustline than Ranma! Waaaaah! And I'm crying... (sob)... I'm more feminine than Ranma... WAAAAAAH!"
The Jusenkyo Guide nodded wisely. "Terrible tragic story sir. Could be worse."
"How could this be worse?" demanded Ryoga.
"Could be raining," said the Guide before stepping inside his hut.
rumble. pitter patter.
Ryoga put her umbrella up as it started raining. "Okay. This day officially sucks."
