Makoto Kino was an active girl and as Sailor Jupiter she was the "heavy hitter" of the inner senshi. In an athletic contest, or one of shere power, she'd have an easy advantage over the shy telemechanic.
However, in a battle of cards the bets were being placed on the buxom bookworm. It did not improve Makoto's outlook that Ganymede had a large fanclub encouraging her to defeat the "evil lesbian tomboy". Nor did the fact that the small showing of support that turned up for her suffered from a severe dearth of boys.
"Uh. H...hi... hit me," Ganymede told the croupier, then blushed as her fans cheered her on.
"Don't tempt me," Makoto growled under her breath as contemplated her cards morosely and the diminishing pile of chips in front of her. Whomever came up with the idiom, "unlucky in love, lucky at cards," didn't know what for.
"Alright, hit me," she instructed and winced as she went bust once again.
"Nn...nineteen," Ganymede blurted as she lay her cards on the table, then more chips were added to her growing pile when the croupier revealed his hand.
It was hardly the battle of the century, but a lot was riding on the fall of the cards.
The thing was, Makoto didn't know whether loosing would be a bad thing or not. On one hand the senshi weren't putting up a very good showing at all. So far they had lost Australia, won Antartica, lost Germany, won for Africa and lost North America. Then there was Haruka's PR disaster. Loosing their homeland along with the rest of the far east would not help their reputations.
Yet. on the other hand, if the alien was sincere about making Kimiko Mizuno the Governor of the Far East, loosing might actually be the best strategy. So far the alien's rule seemed benign, and the Governors seemed to have a fairly free hand in dealing with the minitae of running their regions.
So far. The alien's long ranged plans were unknown; for Setsuna was either being her ussual enigmatic self, or she really did not know what the immediate future held. If he was genuine, placing the elder Mizuno in charge could pave the way to utopia but there was always the chance that that was exactly what the alien wanted them to think in order to trick them into throwing the game.
Makoto pulled herself together as the croupier dealt another hand. The only choice had been to play in ernest and trust their destiny to resolve matters. "I'll stand," she decided.
