Meanwhile, as the card was being drawn, an interaction was occuring between certain deities.
Lathander had suddenly received a call via a certain minor artifact. A thing that he had allowed to exist due to it's potential to invoke rebirth. And also because it wasn't actively malicious, just chaotic. He was a neutral god, all he cared about was goodness, rebirth and the sun. He just had to accept that deck had many dangerous, potentially terrible results.
The call confused him for a moment as it was not coming from Faerun as he'd have expected. Rather, it was coming from another world on the prime material. And the girl it was connected to had no idea who he was. He felt her thoughts for a moment as she processed the idea of a sun deity and then immediately came to the idea of being a servant for some deity named Amateratsu.
Of course, it was obvious what had happened. A faerunian artifact was of course tied to faerunian gods, but this terran girl had no idea about such beings and was just latching onto what she knew. Lathander considered the situation for a moment and shrugged. He wasn't really aware of the situation on Earth very well, and the girl didn't understand him. So, it was unlikely to be a successful combination, but as long as she thought he was this Amateratsu, the situation was easy to fix.
It took a blink of time to find and contact Amateratsu, as he knew which region to look in, and called her attention to the new paladin.
Amateratsu was, at first, confused. Paladins were not unknown in her world, but they were more of a western deal. She was more used to samurai, sohei, monks and mikos. Still, she didn't deny the powers of a paladin, but, given the current situation some things about the class would have to change.
No more clunky armor, she'd have to have Nabiki track down some kevlar, or maybe some magical armor. The sword of course, she appreciated swords (though Nabiki's preference for a long sword and shield was odd to her mind) and some demons required a melee approach, but there had to be some consideration for modern weaponry.
Well, she'd work it out. In the mean time she had to look in on her newest servant and see...
"Uh oh...that is not good,"
As Amateratsu watched, the last card turned over and revealed the Flames. In the same instant Amateratsu was aware of a powerful magical message passing out of the prime material through the inner planes, straight to the outer ones. And the message wasn't going to the upper realms.
Down in the Abyss, within the demonweb pits, Lloth flinched as she suddenly became aware of...an abomination. A drow paladin...of the sun! A female at that! How...how dare such a thing exist!
Looking even closer, Lloth had another realization, other traitors among her servants dwelt upon that realm. They were small in number, but they were there. This was intolerable. She would not have her grasp escaped in this manner.
The drow were hers! Hers! Hers to set against each other! Hers to set against the surface! Hers to entertain her! It was bad enough that Vhaerun and Eilistraee were stealing away her worshippers at home. She could not allow some foreign power access to any drow's devotion! Ever.
The newly created Drow House of Tendo must be abolished before it could grow.
