Crossed Worlds: Gold Digger: Mommy Sense... Tingling! [Episode 71622]

by Rob

Theo and Julia Diggers stood out on the terrace of their home on Jade, gazing out over the beautiful vista of a world mostly untouched by the hands of man (or elf, or troll, or Rakshasa, or...Well, you get the point.) A flight of birds flew peacefully across the sky as the sun slowly set. All in all it as an incredibly romantic scene as the two snuggled together.

Theo tilted his head curiously as his wife suddenly shivered and stood up straight, a chill going down her spine.

“Is something wrong dear?”

“Theo. The girls just did something stupid.”

“What, again?” The archmage asked with a wry snort, as Julia groaned. She then shot her husband a dark look for his lack of concern.

“All right, all right.” He said with a smile, closing his eyes and focusing on his spell casting for a moment, stretching out his aura to feel out across the gulf between worlds to the wards he had set around the Diggers residence.

“I don’t sense anything wrong back home.” He pursed his lips slightly as he focused. “There’s something a bit odd... But no. I sense no evil or danger.” He opened his eyes again, as his wife looked on a touch skeptically.

“Still, maybe we should go back…” Julia Diggers may have been one of the most talented and respected (or feared, depending on your alignment) warriors on Jade, but she was still a mother. And her mommy sense was tingling.

Theo just sighed and smiled. “Julia, for all the long years we were separated, how often did you get a feeling that our children had done something foolish?”

Julia grimaced. “Once a week. At least.”

“And yet they’re still safe and sound. If something major were awry, my wards would have detected it. Whatever is going on, I’m sure the girls can handle it. They’ve grown into fine young women.” Theo reassured his wife. He didn’t bother trying to refute her feeling that something was going on. Feminine intuition went far beyond the power of a mere archmage.

“You’re right Theo.” Julia let out a deep breath and nodded. “I just worry. Especially now that I finally CAN be there for them again…” She sighed, thinking of all the long years she had missed, thinking of how much her children grew up without her. Theo hugged her a bit tighter, trying to dispel her sudden gloom.

“Well, this little trip WAS your idea Julia, for us to make up for lost time…”

Julia suddenly grinned, wrapping her arm around her husband’s waist and pulling him closer. “Hmmmm.. It was, wasn’t it?” A gleam suddenly appeared in her eye. “Well then honey, let’s see about getting you out of that stuffy old mage suit, shall we?”

Dr. Theodore Diggers, Archmage and aura user of no small power smiled at his wife. And swallowed a bit in what might, at a stretch, be called nervousness. It looked like it was going to be a VERY long night.

Back in Atlanta Georgia, Earth Realm

Gina, Brianna, and Genn (In his neutral form) all gathered around the unconscious pigtailed boy on the floor in the middle of the kitchen, while a grumbling Cheetah worked at cleaning up the mess her little chase had created. She was cleaning up as only a werecheetah can, of course, and Gina flinched every time she tossed a fifty of hundred pound chunk of ruined kitchen equipment into the trash.

“This is why I had to make armored garbage cans, and why the normal trash service refuses to come here anymore.” Gina muttered to herself. Though the fact that one of Brianna’s Peeboos had been wandering the property and concluded that the garbage truck was ‘attacking’ the house didn’t help. Nor did the fact that she herself had accidentally tossed a charged plasma coupler in the regular trash. Or the time that…

While Gina was cringing, Brianna was sitting on the floor, checking on the stud.. Erm.. Patient. She cradled his head on her lap as she checked for injuries and broken bones. And, of course, felt him up a bit. She was rather impressed actually. Despite the rough treatment, the young man seemed practically uninjured! And that wasn’t the only impressive thing she was noticing.

“Ooohh.. Tough, well muscled, and definitely packing. A bit young though. Gina, where DO you find them?” Brianna giggled.

Gina, her attention returned to the present, glared at her sister. “Brianna! Cut that out and behave yourself!” She admonished, flushing in embarrassment at the Lythrocopoid’s behavior. Or maybe her comments.

“Where DID you find him Gina?” Genn asked curiously, currently in his neutral form and examining the young man curiously. He was still giving off a strange and impressive aura. Not magical, exactly. It was more like life force. But there was definitely some magic mixed in somehow. It was very unusual. And very tempting to a Rakshasa.

“Well, actually, he sort of found US. A portal just opened up, popped him out, and closed behind him like that!” Gina explained, snapping her fingers.

Cheetah snorted. “Yeah, and SOMEONE would have been flattened by him if their baby sister hadn’t snatched them out of the way.” She huffed.

Gina blushed in embarrassment. “Yeah, thanks Cheetah. He popped out fast enough to leave a big dent in the wall actually.”

“This guy sure knows how to make an entrance all right. Left quite an impression!” Cheetah said with a chuckle, causing the rest of the room to groan.

“Anyway, he took one look at Cheetah and took off like a bullet!”

“Well, he certainly isn’t going anywhere now. So what do we do with him?” Genn asked curiously.
