It was at this point that Rouge walked in and a certain fuzzy blue elf noted such.
" Hey Rouge where have you been?" Kurt asked curiously.
" Ah've been around." she replied " Ah don't particularly like crowded rooms."
" You an' me both stripes." grouched Logan announcing his presence leaning on the wall as the other instructors and Professor Xavier entered.
Scott decided to set the meeting in motion with a direct question that most of the students were probably thinking.
" Professor, what's this all about?"
" Well Scott this discussion is about a potential new student, Mystiques' son, Ranma Saotome and his power." replied Xavier after a thoughtful pause.
Evan broke the silence next with his own queries.
" What's the big deal Professor?" he gestured to the other students " I mean we've had new students before, right?" A few others murmured in agreement.
" Yes indeed Evan the Institute has taken in other students without the need for such a discussion. Indeed we've admitted multiple students, even Mystiques' offspring, without any special unsheduled meeting." Xavier took a steadying breath " The 'Big Deal' Evan is that Ranma possesses one of the most powerful mutant abilities imaginable, many powerful foes, including Magneto and has been sent to us with no knowledge of his mutation or preparation for him."
Kitty Pride was next to pose a question " Professor, just what is Ranma's power? Like, is he going to be another Wanda?"
The latter question drew more than alittle concerned whispering from Xaviers' audience. The Scarlet Witch A.K.A. Wanda Maximoff had made quite an impression on the x-men.
" Let's pray not Kitty. If he has that sort of trouble controlling his power I could not in good conscience allow him to stay here . Ranma's mutation gives him access to an incredible energy, the POWER COSMIC!!"
This drew a gasp of suprise from Cyclops, who studied the Professors files the most and Beast. That combo bought real silence to the room as Xavier continued.
" With this power Ranma can create powerful energy blasts & forcefeilds, fly and even change the composition of physical matter. Theoretically he could do almost anything with his power!"
Now most of the students were concerned ( or at least interested).
" When you say 'change the composition of physical matter' you mean.." started Ricardo/Sunspot before Beast broke in on him.
" Like the philosophers stone he could turn lead into gold. Basically he could turn an object into anything he desires." explained Beast.
" Indeed so Hank and such could be the proverbial 'tip of the iceberg' as far as uses for his power goes." rejoined Xavier.
" Wha's he like Professor?" asked Kurt from his perch upon the back of a chair.
" I haven't had the opportunity to speak with him yet so I really don't know yet. Other than the fact that Ranma is extensively trained in the martial arts, to the point that he was able to defeat Magneto once before his mutant power manifested, Mystique didn't voluteer too much information. Logan what's your opinion of him?" said Xavier ignoring the awestruck teens gaping at the idea of beating Magneto without any powers!
Logan wore a quizzical expression momentarily " Well Chuck the kid's definately a fighter, practically reeked of confidence. Beyond that it's a bit soon to tell."
" I see." stated Xavier, accepting the informationas his face showed concentraition, obviously pondering the ramifications of Logans' judgement before returning to the matter at hand.
" Well then, does anyone have any objections to Ranma being enrolled here?" Xavier asked his gathered pupils, who lookedto one another quietly.
" Professor, I think we can safely say that there are no objections. Right?" spoke Jean from her seat beside Scott.
The Professor looked over his students for confirmation of this. Finding no dissent Xavier decided to continue.
" Very well then. Everyone, Ranma is going to need a lot of support and patience. Mystique did not mention Ranma having any particular command of the english language and has missed a lot of his schoolastic education while being extensively trained in the martial arts. I need you to ensure he has the help he needs to adjust, can I count on you to do this?"
Replies to the affirmative were voiced throughout the students and Xavier slumped back in relief. The challenge of training Ranma would have been daunting without the assistance of his students in social matters!
Kurt seemed excited about Ranma's. It would be good if they could get along. Kurt, like his brother, was in a foregin land speaking a foregin language. He could be very helpful in assisting Ranma's adaptation to America!
Rouges' reaction to the presence of Mystiques' latest child seemed cautious, if not wary. Thankfully the reaction was not hostile as Xavier had feared. While Xavier couldn't be sure ( without using his power) he thought there was some curiousity there. She and Kurt maintained the same relationship after it was discovered he was Mystiques' son. Perhaps they could get along as well? Only time would tell."
Xavier thanked his students and ended the meeting. Thus life at Xaviers' Institute for Gifted Youngsters went on.
