Looking down at his cup of tea, Ranma let out a sigh of relief. At least this cup of tea didn't look like it had been through the opening credits of 'Saving Private Ryan'.
Nabiki just looked into her tea. She wasn't feeling thirsty. She was incredibly nervous about what was going to go on. She really felt 'off', considering all that was going on. And what if she slipped up while having to talk and couldn't cover herself? Damn D'jinni of the lamp and their stupid wishes that warp reality.
While wondering what was taking 'Auntie Saotome' so long to retrieve Ranko, Akane looked back and forth between her sister and Mr. Diggers. She had to admit, Nabiki looked rather nervous, and that was very odd. "Nabiki is usually so confident," Akane wondered, "So why does she seem so out of it today?"
Shaking her head, Akane decided to just let it be. After all, whenever Akane would try to question Nabiki for news or even ask for some advice, she usually ended up paying her older sister numerous Yen notes, depending on what it was she wanted to know.
A few more moments passed. Ranma looked over to Nabiki and then Akane, he asked, "Do either of you have any idea as to what could be taking Mrs. Saotome so long as to bring Ranko down here?"
"Not a clue," Akane said, "And don't bother asking Nabiki. She's likely to charge an arm and a leg."
Nabiki just mumbled under her breath. No she wasn't saying anything, she just mumbled. She really wasn't sure what to say so she just was trying to put up some front to show she kenw something, like mumbling angrilly about little sisters screwing her out of some good Yen.
However, before more could be said or done, a new male form entered the dining area. Nabiki sighed as she recognized this man all-too easilly. "Looks like Genma hasn't changed much," Nabiki thought in a mixture of annoyance and relief.
Smirking, Nabiki said, "This'll be a freebie, Ranma. This is the 'head' of this house. Meet Genma Saotome."
"Genma Saotome," Ranma repeated with a frown starting to tug at the corners of his lips. Ranko had mentioned little about her father, but from what she did tell him, Ranma was not liking this man one bit. "But perhaps she was just exaggerating... I hope." Ranma thought seriously.
Snorting, Genma looked around. He recognized the two Tendo brats. God damn it, why couldn't Soun have had a son? Because of that, there ws no way to combine the schools, so Genma would have to get an early retirement some other way.
However, Genma couldn't help but stare at the blonde-haired gaijin in his home. He frowned slightly. "And what brings you all into my home?" Genma asked seriously and in a kind-enough tone as he could muster. Even though he didn't like the Tendo girls, he still had to make a good showing around them. Didn't want word to get back to Soun about his true nature, now did he?
Akane rolled her eyes. She knew Genma didn't like her. It was obvious when he came to the Dojo for teh first time, ready to marry his daughter off to a 'son' of Soun Tendo. "Still can't believe the dumb panda mistook me for a guy!"
Sighing, Nabiki decided to answer Genma. "Well, Mr. Saotome, our acquaintance Ranma here wanted to meet your daughter, Ranko."
Genma then frowned even more as a realization came to him. "Let me guess. You're that Diggers guy, aren't you?"
"Yes," Ranma answered cautiously. "What about it?"
Snorting in disgust, Genma shook his head. "I don't know why you show such an interest in my worthless daughter. She ain't good to nobody!"
Ranma's eye twitched. "Well, I'd say she has talents. She's a proofreader of my work."
"I know, I know, the girl can't stop but go on and on about you and your 'work'," Genma said as he chuckled. What kind of work was writing? "I swear, she just doesn't shut up about you."
Ranma couldn't help but smile at the fact that Ranko thought so highly of him. "Well, Mr. Saotome, Ranko told me she used to be a martial artist, but there was an accident. Could you tell me how she's been coping?"
