Elfguest: A key element [Episode 72543]

by Kestral

The priestesses of Lolth saw the yochlolth return. First a piece here, then a piece there, then...

"What did you find? Did you get to the Sorcerer's base?"

"There must be thousands of them..." whimpered the ancient demon.

"Thousands of what?!" The head priestess was cruel, mean, nasty, vicious and worse. Seeing a demon as powerful as a yochlolth burned, frozen, chopped up? It looked like someone had tortured a demon beyond its abilities to regenerate!

"...unconquerable..." gasped the yochlolth as it died.

The head priestess watched as the yochlolth's body dissolved into a pool of acidic goo and quickly stepped away so as to avoid having to replace her shoes.

"Mistress, what does this mean? Other than it will be 101 years before we can summon that particular demon again?" The speaker was a fairly promising new priestess, but one who was fairly "by the book" and lacking in innovation. A good assistant but would never be a leader.

"It means that Matron Redwidow has disturbed a nest of sliver beetles on this one," said the head priestess for the benefit of everyone present. "First that gnome thief. Then we discover a retriever was sent and banished with such force that it will take a full millenia for it to recover. Now this. Dejrae. Mehaline. You two assist me. I will do a Trauma Image spell."

"If they could do this to a yochlolth, they must have powerful magic. Magic that rightfully belongs to the drow," speculated Dejrae.

The body of black basalt moved through the shadows without concern.

Most monsters or animals would determine that he was not food and therefore not a concern. Some earth elemental creatures might cause him harm, but he could harm them as well if it came to that.

His concern now was on his findings from the passage of the yochlolth the priestesses had sent to deal with Matron Redwidow's little problem.

The retriever had failed, and there seemed to be something wrong with the homing spell he'd placed on that one slave's collar. Finding a nice niche, Grauf settled into it and let his thoughts go out to where that slave was.

Woods? Was this fool wandering through the wilderness for pleasure or did he have a destination?

Kodachi listened at the window.

A deck of magical cards that the two were attempting to use to unite the two families and marry Ranma-sama off against his will?!

She'd just observe and see what came of this new development.

Genma drew a card and paused for a moment to savor it. This would be his big chance to either free himself of being a panda or to unite the houses - at least until he could take Tendo for everything he had and boot them out of their own house!

He flipped the card.

Genma rarely had a lot bad happen to him. Most of it hit his son. Already having had the reverse of a wish hit him, good luck reasserted itself in his life. He drew a card that briefly showed an elaborate key before it erupted into light.

Choice was made, Genma Saotome.
Last card that you might draw from me.
The Key.
A weapon of great magical power
The edge thee needs in thy coming battles.

A sword appeared in midair, glowing limned with golden fire before it crashed to the table.

"Hmmm, maybe I could get some money for this," mused Genma.

Kasumi gasped from the doorway as she saw the sword and heard the comment. She had read Tolkein, but also other source materials, and so she immediately recognized that this was:
