" Inthat case Ranma you've shown remarkable cunning in the timing of your recovery. Most of the students have left for school already and it's still early enough for breakfast." replied Beast " I'm sure your hungry after an entire day sleeping."
A growl from Ranma's dissatisfied belly awnsered.
" Eh heh..sorry 'bout that." Ranma said scratching the back of his head in embarassment.
Beast chuckled " Not to worry Ranma. Breakfast is coming up."
The elevator stopped smoothly and the opening doors halted further conversation. Beast patted Ranma's shoulder with a smile and gestured him forward before exiting the elevator to lead him through an assortment of rooms and hallways to the dining room.
It was occupied by a long table, a chandelier, a bald man in a wheelchair, an african-american youth with a blonde buzzcut being fussed over by an attractive woman of the same ethnicity with shocking white locks and another teen with semi-long bangs of blue black hair framing his face wearing baggy pants, a black T-shirt and a tan flannel coat. All of whom turned to see the new arrivals in the room before smiling and moving to introduce themselves.
" Cool! You're finally awake!" exclaimed Kurt before he 'ported directly in front of Ranma leaving a whiff of sulfuric smoke and a 'Bamph!' in his wake.
" Good morning. I'm your brother , Kurt Wagner!" Kurt said eagerly extending introduction and his hand to the startled Saotome who took his hand after a moment of cofused hesitation.
" I'm Ranma Saotome, pleased to meet ya, 'ni-chan." said Ranma a smile slowly dawning on his face.
" 'Ni-chan?" queried Kurt " what is that?"
" It means 'little brother' Kurt." explained the bald man in the wheelchair.
" Ranma, I am Professor Charles Xavier the founder of this institute and you've already meet your brother Kurt. This is Ororo Monroe, an instructor here." Xavier stated gesturing to the silver haired woman who nodded as Ranma turned to her. Xavier continued the introductions " and this is Evan Daniels, her nephew and a student here."
" Hey man." was Evan's neutral greeting, obviously busy.
Ranma blinked in realization " Where's Logan?" asked Ranma casting his gaze about.
" Ha! Logan's always running off to do his own thing. Don't worry about it!" Kurt dissmissed the question.
Evan then reminded Kurt about the time, prompting him to snatch his stuff before Evan grabbed onto him. They vanished with a 'bamph!' and a jaunty " Later Bro' " from the irreverant Kurt.
" Professor? Is there someplace I can train here? Gotta kieep up my training." asked Ranma.
" Yes of course there is. Speaking of training, there are some matters we need to discuss. Your education, your power and your, our, saftey." Xavier stated pressing his palms together " Xavier's Institute for Gifted Youngsters is a school to train mutants in the use of their gifts. As you may have already gathered you are a mutant and one of exceptional power. I, we, would like to extend a place as a student here, to train you in the use of your power."
" Well sure..I guess." said Ranma uncertainly. Schools outside the martial variety had not been kind to him.
" Also we'll enroll you in high school to continue your academic education."
" Do I haveta?!"
" Yes you do Ranma. Further you'll curb public uses of your power and extraordinary martial arts skills. Humanity has not yet accepted mutant-kinds existance and we can't afford to draw attention to ourselves." explained Xavier. A bemused, wry smile foud its way to Ranma's face.
" That so? In that case ya better not put me in school." countered Ranma.
" Oh? And why is that?" challenged Ororo, amused.
" Durin' training, Pop, the guy Mom married I mean, took me to a place called Jyusenkyo, or the valley of sorrows. The place has a bunch a springs with bamboo poles stickin' out of 'em. You train by fightin' on the poles, see? Well the springs are cursed. You take on the from of the last thing to drown in 'em whenever your body comes in contact with more than a handfull of cold water. I booted Pop, I mean Genma that is, into the spring of drowned panda, when he jumped out as one I was so shocked he got a hit in an' I fell in the spring of drowned girl!" Ranma said, growing irritated as he went on.
" So you turn into a girl with cold water?" asked Beast.
" Yeah." replied the now downcast Ranma.
" Facinating!" remarked Beast " How do you change back?"
" Hot water reverses it, but only till next time."
" May we see this transformation Ranma?" asked Professor Xavier.
" Sure." demured Ranma who then went to fetch some water (and set the kettle to boil!). He returned with the water and dumped it over his head (after breaking a glass, drawing a wince from Ororo).
Nothing happened.
Ranma blinked and looked down at himself. Eyes wide, he patted himself down. A joyous look spread accross Ranma's face. " I didn't change? My curse is gone." He said to himself with a wild grin following.
< BWAAHAHAHAHA! ALRIGHT! Never gonna be a girl again! > cried Ranma slipping into japanese, almost singing in elation, much to the amusement of Beast and the Professor who could understand him. After a couple of moments Xavier called his attaention.
" It would seem your mutation has eliminated this 'curse' of yours Ranma."
" That means I had the cure inside me the entire time!" Ranma awnsered chuckling on the edge of control.
" Indeed. It also eliminates your argument for not attending a public school." said Xavier. That brought Ranma back down to the earth, still smiling though.
" I'd still like some time to get a grip on my new body and powers first. Couldn't we wait a month or so? 12 to 15 hours a day training, I should be fine." returned the displaced Saotome.
" Well..." Began Xavier, the discussion that followed continuing for some time.
