ANDFR: Memories of the Hunters [Episode 73801]

by Targhan

Slowly, over the last year, Lilith became more and more a part of the essence of Morrigan. It started small, a small realization that she was. Over the following months, she began to be able to see, or hear, while Morrigan was distracted. As time marched on, she eventually became a being unto herself. Her individuality surfaced, in a more physical manner as well, an obvious result of a Darkstalker's more magical nature. The hair color would turn violet, then shorter, and her chest size would reduce slightly. There was enough of a change that one would see different individuals, never knowing the difference. Over the last few months, however, Lilith hungered. She hungered to be fully a part of Morrigan or to be fully free of Morrigan. As it stood, she had neither.

All of this was not of concern at the moment; she was fixated on the young "Hunter," whom she followed home. Hovering transparently in the air, she waited for the boy to go to sleep. With what she sensed as an extreme reluctance to anything sensual, she would have to infiltrate his dreams first.

::: Elsewhere :::

Soun and Genma were at a local pub, drowning the misery of the week. The establishment was darkened, with only the reds, blues, and greens of the neon lights for illumination. They sat in a corner booth, drinking sake. Soun was worried more than usual. His friend looked lost, confused, and disorientated.

Genma had thought that the days of the Saotome clan being "Darkstalker Hunters" was over. Yet, he had felt an unnatural gloom settle over Nerima, just like it had been when he was a boy. If a portal had opened to that world of eternal nightmares had opened, it wouldn't take long for the former hunters to become hunted. Whatever guilds there were have long since been dissolved; they have been gone since he was Ranma's age.

<< Begin Flashback >>

The night air was humid and musky. Genma was annoyed that his father insisted on teaching him to use the useless weaponry and combat tactics of the hunters. The last of the Darkstalkers were either dead, or left, before Genma was even born. How could his father understand that the true path of a martial artist was to move on. The guild was even going to disband, so why should a martial artist learn such things?

"Are you ready Genma?" Asked the older Saotome.

"Any time you are, old man," the younger Genma responded, while he looked over the battlefield, noting that his father wasn't going to hold back.

The two clashed, and Genma was able to slip behind his father's clumsy "Silver Cross" attack, and planted a kick square into the old man's side, sending him plummeting to the ground.

"Damnit, Genma," his father berated, "you laugh now, but if you don't use those weapons no amount of martial arts will save you!" He then began to glare, "Our families martial arts are tempered with the divine skill of hunters past. Generations of Saotome's have had to battle the Darkstalkers. Do not forget the name of the clan Aenslad. We have a blood feud with them, since your grandmother killed the would be husband of one of those monsters."

Seeing that his son was bored, and looking off at some goofy looking grandmaster, Genma's father finally caved. "Here," he said, "take these scrolls, and this cross." Then, with a sigh, he said, "The hunters' days may be over, but keep these and the teachings close to you. Now, go with your new master."

<<End Flashback>>

Genma realized that he only saw his father once after that. When the foolish old man decided to try some crazy magic to go to the Darkstalker world. "Stupid pops," Genma thought, "going to that world because the last guild closed."

Frowning, Genma arose, and said to Soun, "Friend, Hell will soon be upon us. I must go to my home, face Nodoka, and retrieve the only things that might save us." Then, he stumbled out of the bar.

Soun, while surprised, managed to catch the arm of his lifelong friend before he left the bar, and asked, "what is it?"

Genma's voice was cold, "The thing my father feared may be coming to be."

Soun's grip released, and he uttered a short prayer.

:: Tendo Home ::

Finally, Ranma was asleep. Lilith licked her lips, it may not be as much fun as the real thing, but the succubus like the dreams too. Then, she frowned. When she enters the dream, Morrigan will have her body again. "Oh well," she thought, "she'll have to go back to sleep sometime."
