"AKANE!!"
Soun's wails of grief were the cries of a broken man. His baby daughter was dead. And the lack of a body somehow made the grief even worse for him.
"What the hell was that?!"
Ranma was angry and confused. How did this happen? He turned to the nearest elf (Sanri in this case) for an explanation.
"It was a Death. The Skull Card of Death."
Seeing that she finally had everyone's attention, the drow tried to explain to them the nature of the magic they had been so recklessly tampering with.
"The Deck is unpredictable. Good fortune to some, Bad to others."
"Like that?"
Genma jerked a thumb in the direction of the blood on the floor, secretly delighting in the sounds of Soun's renewed suffering. "Yes, Fight Death or die forever."
"And you call that a fight?!"
"Death does not believe in fair fight."
"Obviously."
Kodachi's throat was as dry as her tone.
"But we can get her back, right?"
She hated having to give her master the bad news, but the slave conditioning made lying out of the question.
"No. She is dead forever. There is no return."
"What about-hey! It's gone!!"
And it was true, the deck had vanished, to find new drawers, new victims, elsewhere.
