LOCATION: AGENIA. ALTERNATE UNIVERSE - FANTASY, SEMI-EPIC. BEGINNING OVERVIEW
Ranma waited a moment, glancing around at the field as if anyone could show up. To his surprise, when the Mimir spoke next it was in a woman's voice. Even more odd, it sounded a lot like Kasumi except this voice had a sadness and longing to it he couldn't see Kasumi having.
Agenia. At the end of the Second Great Age, a great battle took place between the civilized races and one who dubbed herself the Dark Queen. During that struggle, the Dark Queen was struck by the combined magic of the various magic-using races. Vowing her revenge she struck the source of magic itself with the last of her power.The magic has been dying since that long ago day. Elves and dwarves and faerie and dragon - their numbers have faded since then, and they are oft inflicted by madness as their death looms upon them. That and some bitterness towards the nonmagical races.
When the last bit of magic fades from Agenia, only the race of Man and the race of Orc will remain to contest for the lands.
The Elves retreat to their forests, and from there to a subdimension known as 'the Retreat.' The Dwarves have gone to their cities under mountains, there to brood over the increasing emptiness they are surrounded with. Other races have likewise retreated or gone mad in this, the Twilight Of The Elves.
"So these elves and dwarves and stuff are going extinct, huh?" Ranma said as the Mimir showed signs of winding down.
All the races, save Man and Orc, shall finally pass on within one hundred years. Many races already have, or gone mad, or devolved. Within five hundred years, either Man or Orc will at last stand triumphant and the races of magic will pass into legend.
"What's an 'orc'?" asked Ranma.
The voice of an old man responded to him from the Mimir.
Orc. One of the races of the goblinkin. Some would say a counterpart to man, much as goblin is to dwarf and elves find their own dark mirror. Depending on the universe - they were either formed of their own gods, or formed as a reflection of a race they oppose.They are taller and stronger than the average human, but slower and shorter lived. They breed faster but also have more deformities than is typically found in humans. They are overall of the same intelligence, but have less wisdom than humans.
"Hmmm," said Ranma in thought. "So, uhm, where are we?"
The Mimir ratched a couple of times before going back to the Kasumi voice.
