Hida Kisada had called for a council of war. All his generals and advisors, along with his children and the other crab families' leaders, had come. The Great Bear had started the meeting by ordering a report on his clan's readiness to go to war IN the Empire's inner territory. That made a few eyebrows to be raised.
"My Lord Kisada" asked Kuni Yori "May I assume you are considering an intervention in the Empire's internal affairs ? Their petty bickering is not our concern. The shadowlands are"
"I do not need you to remind me of my duty, shugenja !" answered Kisada "I have reasons to suspect that the Dark One himself is preparing to return and this time, it will be from within..."
All the samurais present gasped and started muttering among themselves. Kisada continued "You've all read the reports and heard the rumors. There has never been so much maho activity since the bloodspeakers' fall. More and more shadowlands creatures are slipping through the mountain tunnels to spread in Rokugan..."
Kisada stayed silent for a few seconds, letting his words sink in.
"And now, my son Ranma had a revelation from the Kami themselves, announcing Fu-Leng's imminent return. We are the Crab clan. Since the days of Hida, we have stood against the Darkness and protected the Empire. And if it is on the wrong side of the Wall, I say we go and DESTROY IT ! IT IS OUR SACRED DUTY !!!"
They all reacted as one "HAI, HIDA-SAMA ! WE'RE WITH YOU !"
Kisada smiled "We're all agreed then. I want plans and strategies for what we have to do while maintaining the Wall's defences at the same time. Any ideas ?"
*SLAM*
All heads turned to see an out of breath messenger. Kisada frowned "What is it ? Speak !"
"My lord... Some unicorns have come from the shadowlands... They bring news of a huge army headed for the Wall..."
Hida Yakamo wondered aloud "Another offensive so soon ? After the loss of an Oni ? They've never done that before !"
Sukune, Kisada's frail but cunning youngest natural son, didn't like this "It cannot be a coincidence. Maybe it is a diversion to cover something else, it would make sense if Ranma's vision is genuine..."
O-Ushi turned to her brother "A diversion ? For what ?"
Sukune shrugged "That is what I would want to know. Such a move entails that something BIG is brewing"
Kisada rose from his seat "No matter. The enemy is coming, all of you prepare for battle ! Ranma, come with me ! We're going to have a little talk with our unicorn guests"
