"Bayushi-san," a servant spoke, approaching her. "A message has come for you."
The maids the Crab had provided, her guards, glanced at her, but then shrugged at the perfumed note and feminine calligraphy. Obviously it was some message from a fellow lady of the Clans, nothing of importance surely.
Kyoko smiled in amusement at the Crabs semi-naivete, and retired to her private quarters to read the message.
What she read chilled her to the bone.
"Soon we shall hold Otosan Uichi, the Taint corrupted shall be purged and the Empire shall be saved. You must keep the Crab from interferring with us. Be on the look out for a traitors to the clan, Bayushi Nori and Soshi Konomi were both last reported in Crab lands. Nori acts out of loyalty to the Empire, kill her mercifully and let her face not be revealed. Konomi is a witch, do what you will with her. Remember the debt. With this you will both fulfil your debt of honor to us and serve the Empire as a true Scorpion.
Kyoko had to sit down and catch her breath.
Then she heard the uproar beyond and moved outside to see Crab soldiers rushing for weapons and armor and heading down to form up. Cries of "the Shadowlands are attacking" went up and she gasped, returning to her quarters and sitting down.
It was too much to be coincidence. Her Ranma's revelation, the message from her clan, and this Shadowlands assault so soon after the loss of an oni. Something in the inner Empire was being directed by the Shadowlands, and her clan was mired deep into it.
She just wish she knew on what sign.
