It wasn't as easy as all the martial arts movies made it out to be. Well, on the one hand, there were boards and signs proclaiming martial arts schools practically everywhere, but most of them weren't any use, and she was already past the ones that were.
She needed to find a master of accomplishment, and that was a quest in and of itself. Though she had heard rumors about the odd master here and there.
She was trying Tokyo first. Unfortunately, the shotokan master was travelling about the world like she was, and not on hand at his studio. She'd heard rumors about another, but wanted to avoid that one. Everything she heard about Anything Goes was bad news, and she didn't want herself getting conned out of something.
And that left her with only a long walk to Yokohama out of her dead ends. And so she shouldered her bag and continued onward. The sun was setting by the time she reached the edge of the city and she pressed on until it was well below the horizon. And then she started looking for a place to camp.
Ranma found one easy enough, coming to a naturally formed shelter in an odd formation of rocks that had, by the weathering evidence, been in place for ages upon ages. Ranma was young and tired, or else she might have noticed at how the place sent silent and subtle prickles running up and down her skin.
The black-haired lupine set forth to make her camp, unaware of the bonds of foretelling wrapping close around her. In the ground below her, sheltered by rocks carved invisibly with magical wards, Iceron sat and waited to be awakened.
By all accounts he should have remained there forever, as all his servants were long dead, the trail of his blood long lost and the place of his haven long forgotten. But fate and serendipity were working in his favor tonight. And lycan blood of his descent would be spilled on the hungry rocks this night.
All that remained was to introduce the instrument of that betrayal.
