The dragon's cave was worthy of its name since in the mythological times, it was really the lair of a powerful oriental dragon. Back then, monsters were commonplace and Man was outclassed as a species in the race for survival. This dragon took pity on the poor humans and took a few disciples. He taught them the primal form of Dragon kung-fu, originally created by dragons to defend themselves when in human guise.
To be able to stand against physically superior opponents, the dragon's students learned to use their chi in various ways : to become stronger and faster, to jump across impossible distances, to heal themselves and others from injury, to project their chi out of their bodies as a deadly weapon...
Still it wasn't enough. To go beyond the human body's limits even further, the dragon taught his disciples to feel and reach for Mother Earth's chi itself. Tapping in the limitless chi supply of the dragonlines, they were able to summon elemental attacks of great power. Five different elemental subschools were created from the dragon's teachings :
Seiryu, the water dragon, a defensive style favoring dodge and counters.
Suzaku, the fire bird, dedicated to chi attacks and techniques for maximum firepower.
Byakko, the wind tiger, an offensive style based on speed and acrobatic maneuvers.
Gembu, the earth turtle, emphasizing strength, toughness and powerful physical attacks.
The fifth school had been created by a renegade student who fell to Evil. The void snake school made extensive use of negative ki and crippling pressure points strikes.
Ranma and his genie companions had found the teachings of those legendary martial arts. All the basics were written down but only one elemental school was described. It was :
