The two elves merely stared at this repeat of a prior performance. Helmets had been bent inward as if a catapult shot had impacted them. Armor crushed. Weapons broken. A glimpse up at a cavern wall showed where one of them, a shaman judging from the skulls decorating his belt, had been skewered on a stalactite and was still hanging from that perch.
"(Thorn? I would suggest that whatever deal you make with this human, you absolutely positively do not cheat him.)"
"(Damn, he must be highly ranked whatever his Order is,)" said Thorn. She was quite impressed. "(Maybe we should have him join up with us.)"
"(We're elves and this is an all girl group,)" pointed out Mist. "(We can't go around just picking up stray humans.)"
"(His girl form is about the right height for an elf, and he does turn into a girl,)" countered Thorn. "(You can't tell me that having someone that strong in our group wouldn't come in handy at times.)"
Ranma listened the two talking in their odd language for a minute but decided that whatever their argument, rescuing those other gals was probably a good idea.
"(I'm not doubting there are times he would be handy,)" stated Mist. "(What I'm saying is that there are inevitable frictions we could do without.)"
"(I'm saying that I'd rather have someone that good in our party when the going gets tough. Don't you think our current situation is... hey, where'd he go?)"
Ranma slowly snuck up, preparing to leap down from a ledge. He carefully calculated each position and angle, waiting for an auspicious moment. Ever since he'd seen the one who had made belt pouches out of what looked like young human skulls, any thought of holding back in this fight had fled.
Cage with prisoners over there. Big uglies over here. Two of them getting into loud argument. Big uglies giving more attention to those two than their surroundings?
Ranma leapt.
