Ranma Saotome had found himself acknowledged as a potential hero of the age by the kami. And all he had to do for them was watch over this little girl, make sure she don't get killed or nothin' by these Senshi chicks, and make sure she don't get the urge to make the world shut up or something like that. He'd have to look it up in his manual to find out what that was about, if he could figure out how to use the datacube thingy. Was he supposed to stick it to his cellphone or something?
The new father of Hotaru Tomoe, now Hotaru Saotome, plodded along as he continued to ponder his situation, his new daughter gently being rocked to sleep by his rolling gait.
At the Tendo home, preparations for dinner were underway. The meal table was in place in the tea room, with the rice cooker set to the side. Seat cushions were already arranged around the table. Down the hall, in the kitchen, plates were stacked in anticipation of the curry being served that evening.
Earlier that Saturday, the people of the household had received some very big news concerning one of its residents. One of them had joined the ranks of parenthood. Without undergoing the process of marriage. After some initial misunderstandings (and a broken plate or two), the situation with the little girl whose grandfather couldn't take care of her was explained.
The spoken promise by Ranma to take care of the girl tempered the people's reactions. They knew what Ranma was like about his promises. The prospect of Ranma having a secure income from being the guardian of the little girl mollified the objections of several of them, due to greed or to growing respect.
And so, dinner that evening was to be a special occasion. Akane Tendo even volunteered to help her elder sister make the meal. Pots clanging, knives swishing, pans dropping, and other sounds of enthusiasm were heard all afternoon long in the kitchen. Now, as evening approached, the finishing touches were put into place. Ranma would be returning soon with the guest of honor.
In the washroom/change room, several individuals gathered in front of the medicine cabinet. Nabiki Tendo, her father, and Mr. Saotome were downing some tablets with a glass of water. They may have been bullied into staying for dinner by Kasumi and Akane, but they weren't joining the meal defenseless!
