A small gray mug with no handles lay cradled between Nabiki's hands. From time to time, she would take a long sip from it. She was on her second pot of herbal tea already; she was hoping to preempt the anticipated upset stomach. She had a bottle of chewable antacids beneath her seat cushion just in case though. At least she wouldn't have to lie if she only ate a little because she was feeling full. She should probably cut down on the tea; it wouldn't do to have all that effort go to waste by taking a sidetrip to the restroom.
As for Soun and his friend Genma, their plan of action was to anesthetize themselves with their favorite medicine. A bottle or three of sake. A small bottle or three of the good stuff, as those were easier to sneak past Kasumi. Preoccupied as she was in the kitchen with Akane, the two men thought they had a good chance of not getting noticed by the eldest Tendo daughter as they celebrated a little earlier than expected. And Nabiki, dear and dutiful daughter that she was, didn't even begrudge them at their ill-gotten gains. She was in the same boat as they were, after all.
However, their resolve was starting to weaken when the smell of smoke grew stronger over time rather than disperse as the frenzied activity in the kitchen settled down.
The night had fallen around the Tendo household by the time Ranma Saotome made his way around the street corner at the end of the block. Carrying a little girl on his back, he walked up the street towards the Tendo front gate. He would have returned earlier with his new daughter except he had somehow gotten confused as to what street went where. No matter, for he had finally made it back.
A shame about Hotaru though, sleeping through it all. He had done some more sight-seeing of the streets that led from the drainage canal. He absolutely, positively, did not get lost on his way back. No way. No how. Yep. Sight-seeing.
As Ranma pushed open the gate with his knee, he promised himself he would smack Ryouga an extra hard one the next time they fought. For no reason in particular. Yeah. He deserved it. He did.
The young man was still nodding to himself as he stood in the walkway between the gate and the front door when someone called out to him from around the corner of the house.
