"...It was just supposed to be an modified Expelliarmus?" Once upon a time, there had been a young women who had been overjoyed to be accepted as a teacher to her old school, an revered institution with an illustrious and long history.
And actually, she still thought it was a worthy job, most of the time. Somebody had to at least try to grind, mash, or simply slather some sense into those young hooligans, after all...
But sometimes. Sometimes.
"What do you mean, it was just supposed to be an modified Expelliarmus?"
"We. We just wanted to blow their wands out into the lake. See them flap around like chickens, or something. Please, Professor McGonagall. We never thought anything like this would happen."
The screaming howling shockwave that had howled first though the lake and than the entire castle, jarring and screeching though every straid of Magic that it encountered. Tearing, breaking, untuning...
"36 people with minor injuries. 14--mind you, 14, wands that have shattered entirely or, even if not, seem beyond salvaging. Not to even mention poor Arther Weasley and Molly Heathers. And Mr. Shields, of course."
Arther and Molly had been found half stuck inside a tree. It had taken hours to unstick them properly. And as for Mr.Shields---
Traditional House rivalry be damned.
"You will both make formal apologies to Mr Shields. And Miss Tsukino, and anybody else who has been injured or inconvienced by this--ill thought out--prank of yours. Since your parents have already offered to replace all the destroyed and damaged wands and other equipment, Mr Potter..."
"Yes ma'am."
"Mr Potter. Mr Black. The Headmaster will speak to you later, I belive, but..."
"Yes, ma'am, We're really, really sorry."
"Yes. All right. Dismissed."
Idiots.

"Ahh, Minerva. Well come."
"Headmaster. Those...idiot children..."
"We've managed to figure this afternoons--incident--out, actually. It appears to have actually been an freak accident, strangely enough."
"...What?"
"An especially powerful and enhanced Expelliarmus at exactly the wrong time and angle, which ended up resonating with both the castle's defenses and the magic of the Giant Squid in exactly the wrong way. Not the kind of thing that happens often, I believe"
Right. Of course not. Minerva McGonagall groans.
"They're still idiots."
"They are young, Minerva"

Stomp. Stomp. Stomp.
"Err. Lily? You were waiting for us?"
"No, I was waiting for the tooth fairy! ---Never mind. Mr.Shields' all right, by the way. Not that you two absolute idiots would, like, care, but---"
"Hey, we do. Really"
"It's not like we want to be thrown out of school or anything, you know. And nothing like that was supposed to happen, anyway!"
"Yeah. I mean, it really was an modified Expelliarmus. To begin with. At least"
