"Ahh...Helga?"
"Hmmm."
"Will you please explain the point of having a House just for Purebloods, in the first place? ---Again."
"---Again?"
"Sorry. But really, I mean...Almost all our apprentices are Purebloods anyway, aren't they? Well, there're some halfbloods I suppose, but those were mostly brought up in Pureblooded families anyway, so..."
"Till now. Yes. But in the future---"
"Mm. You were talking about how the Mud-, um, the Muggleborns weren't going away, because there were always going to be more of than being born. And the halfbloods and, um, Squib descendants that grow up with Muggles and show Magic later on, and that kind of thing. So you wanted to teach them."
"Hey, you remembered! ---Sorry. Ranted a whole lot, did I."
"I don't mind, as long as you remember to eat and stuff. Sometimes you don't, you know."
"Most of the people who know me would say I eat enough for 4 people, so in balances out, in the end. But anyhow---"
"Alright, so you want to teach the Muggleborns and such that usually get ignored."
"Umm hmm. ---And now that all of us are The-Bane-Of-5-Dark-Lords-And-1-Dark-Lady, or whatever she was, I could manage that. For a while, at least. They'll even ignore the fact that I'm, shall we say, Not-All-That-Pureblooded. But then---"
"You think there'll be problems?"
"Of course there'll be problems, silly! The More-Pureblooded-Than-Thou's are starting to fuss and natter already, and we haven't even actually had to deal with the "Muggleborns who blow up people by accident" problems or the "fanatical Muggles somehow connected with Muggleborns with pitchforks" problems yet!"
"...Err, Helga. You are not making me feel any more confident about this entire endevor, now..."
"Pffle. At least with the anticipated problems, we could figure out what to do in advance. It's the things you never see coming that bite you were it hurts, you know."
"If you say so. It seems to work for you, anyway. Err. Helga?"
"Yes?"
She smiles, absentmindly twirling scarlet straids of her hair.
"Oh. The House For Purebloods Only, right. Though you could prob'ly let halfbloods in too, as long as they're descended from the Old Families, or fostered by them or something. ---Well, it's that---we really do have to have a House for the children of people that are scared to death of all things Muggle-related, otherwise some people just wouldn't send us their children. Not all---or even most---Purebloods are scholar-y enough for Rowena or brave enough for Godric, you know. Not to mention some Muggleborns really are dangerous, whether they mean to be or not."
And so he thinks a long time, for him at least, about that.
"Err, Helga? You mean you want a House to put all the slow Purebloods in so they wouldn't be in the way and the Muggleborns wouldn't hurt them by mistake?"
And she laughs and laughs and laughs, and says---
"Oh Salazar. Sometimes you're not such an Jellyfish-for-brains, after all."
He remembers that moment in time, to the end.
