And her father was at the center of it, of course.
She had been on the verge of giving up on Ranma completely, aside from as an acquaintance at least. In fact she HAD a new boyfriend already. Once she'd graduated from St. Hebereke and moved on to Tokyo College it had proven a lot easier to get one that was interested in her and not in running away from her.
Of course, that's when her father's recent death brought to her attention two pieces of paper.
One piece of paper she was going over even now
The one that bound her to marry Ranma Saotome, should he still be unmarried at the time of the elder Kuno's demise, as a promise between the heads of the Saotome and Kuno clans.
Her eye twitched irritably as she considered the situation.
It wouldn't have been so bad if it hadn't been for the second piece of paper. The will that, if said marriage contract was valid, required her to marry Ranma if she wanted any money.
Having grown out of her adolescence and out of some of the fantasy's born of romance manga and social ostracism in that girl's school, she knew that Ranma wasn't particularly interested in her. And considering the number of honor pledges on him already, she doubted he'd care about hers.
As to what her father hoped to gain out of this, she wasn't certain. Perhaps he had disapproved of her dating someone...not quite from home. Perhaps he hadn't know about that and thought he was doing her a favor (she rather doubted that). Perhaps he had just wanted a chance to torture people from behind the grave (she suspected that considering that her brother's inheritance depended on him marrying the pig-tailed girl, of all people). She didn't particularly know or care at this point.
Kodachi growled angrily and resisted the urge to tear up either piece of paper. Instead she turned to her print and removed some nice blank sheets of paper and tore them into shreds instead.
"Hmm," Kodachi said. "I think I need to see a copy of the Tendo agreement."
If she was lucky, it would be formal enough to render her contract null and void.
