“At least from a financial perspective,” Nabiki thought smugly. She was still amazed by the cash wedding gifts the other ‘fiancées’ and rivals had shelled out just to attend the wedding. It was enough to keep the Tendo Dojo in the black for some time, wile Nabiki could spend her resources on other facets to make funds for the family.
And then two weeks ago, Nabiki found out she as going to become a major stockholder in an air-freight service. Mrs. Saotome’s brother had died, and since he had no heirs, left his estate and business to his nephew. “And since I’m going to get a nice, juicy position once he gets ownership,” Nabiki thought with a smile, “I may never have to stoop low to keeping the family in the clear EVER again.”
Hearing a sudden knock at her door, Nabiki stopped her typing. Swiveling the chair so she faced the door, she asked, “Who is it?”
“Hey, Nabs,” Nabiki heard a familiar voice call out. “I need some advice.”
Nodding her head, Nabiki said, “Come on in, Ranma.”
No sooner had Nabiki spoken, that the door opened. Ranma walked in, still in his cute pilot’s outfit. And she had to admit, she liked the aviator’s jacket. It was a rather new look for Ranma, and she thought he looked good in a leather bomber jacket. “So, little bro,” Nabiki said, as she had taken to thinking of Ranma as family, “What can I do for you today?”
Sighing, Ranma walked around the room for a bit, wondering how to put this. He looked at the bed and then looked at Nabiki. “Mind if I sit down?”
“Go ahead,” Nabiki said. Watching Ranma sit, she commented, “I notice you didn’t come home last night. Did you get a big mission or what?”
“Well,” Ranma mumbled. “Well... It does have to do with my flying lessons?”
Nabiki sighed. “Okay, what went wrong? Did you crash a plane? Did someone get hurt?” Nabiki frowned. “Am I going to have to spend a lot of money to bail out your sorry ass?”
“No, no,” Ranma said, waving his arms defensively at the middle Tendo sister. “Nothing went wrong at all, Nabiki.”
“All right,” Nabiki said, now curious. “Then what is your problem?”
“It’s about Alex,” Ranma started.
“Oh?” Nabiki asked, raising an eyebrow. “What about him?”
“That’s just it, Nabs,” Ranma said. “Alex isn’t a guy,” Ranma smiled a little. “She’s a woman.”
Nabiki raised an eyebrow. She couldn’t help but smirk. “My, my, my... Ranma keeping secrets form us, are you?”
“It’s not like I meant to,” Ranma said. “It’s just that when I finally found a flying school and said that my instructor’s name was ‘Alex’, everyone just assumed I had a guy teaching me,” Ranma then sighed a little sadly. “And around here, when people just assume, you can’t change them no matter what. And when I’ve managed to somehow do it, I’d usually be the one feeling the hurt.”
Nabiki nodded her head at that. “Well, I can’t really disagree with you on that,” Nabiki said as she then looked at Ranma seriously. “My advice to you, is to keep this bit of information to yourself, little bro. The fewer whom know about the truth, the better.”
“It’s not that, Nabiki,” Ranma said seriously. “This is about me and Alex.”
Nabiki mentally groaned, as a bad feeling suddenly went up her back. “Let me guess... Your father engaged you to her, right?”
“Not at all,” Ranma said. Nabiki let out a sigh of relief as he then added, “But I proposed to her. And she accepted.”
Nabiki stared at Ranma. No, she redefined stared. “Ranma... WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING!?”
Ranma raised his hands defensively again. “Nabs, you gotta understand... Alex ain’t like anyone else I’ve ever known. She’s... She’s great...”
Nabiki’s eye twitched. “So, I take it you two have been going on dates instead of learning how to fly?”
“Not at all,” Ranma said. “I’ve learned how to fly and maintain airplanes thanks to Alex,” Ranma then blushed a little. “We kinda skipped over the dating and went right to the engagement.”
Nabiki stared at Ranma more. “Oh please say you’re kidding me...”
“Not at all,” Ranma said seriously. “I want to marry Alex. We just compliment each other so well.”
“Fine, whatever,” Nabiki said, somewhat frustrated. “I wish you luck with your survival. I can tell you know that the fiancées are going to blow their tops.”
“Well, Nabs, that’s kinda why I wanted to talk to you,” Ranma said. “I want you to break the news to them.”
Leaning forward, Nabiki stared at Ranma. “Ranma, I love you like a brother, but...” Nabiki took a DEEP breath. “ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND!?”
“No,” Ranma said. He then looked at Nabiki pleadingly. “Please Nabs, you gotta help me. I want the others to know, but I don’t want them ruining this for me. So will you please help? Please?”
Nabiki rolled her eyes. Oh man was she ever going to regret this. “I’ll see what I can do...”
