Match-Ups 101: The problem with bluffing (LIME) [Episode 81355]

Asuka's brain was still stuttering badly. Where did Shinji get this kind of gall? The little wimp had always been useless outside an EVA, and terrified of anything even hinting at sex or romance. "And is that all you're hoping for?" she asked in what she hoped was a sultry voice, then froze up when he cradled her chin, and looked her in the eye again, "I'm not hoping for it." Something told her her that Shinji was not expressing despair. This was wrong, this was so very, very wrong. Her breathing turned ragged, her skin cold and her guts to water in atavistic stress response. She'd enjoyed teasing him, but this wasn't teasing. She wanted to run, to hide, to scream, to slap him... she wanted to do what he wanted. No, no, no, she couldn't want him! Not Shinji the wimp, Shinji the whiner, the loser, the famous Third Child who was totally useless for anything but piloting an EVA and doing housework! She turned and ran, "Misato!"

Shinji sighed, but went into the bathroom anyway. Thanks to Urd, he could now accept that the problem wasn't him; it was Asuka and her own conflicts. So after doing his business, he stepped into the shower, planning to take his time for once. After all, Misato would be asleep for a good half-hour or more, and Asuka... well, Asuka wasn't likely to interrupt, he thought.
