"Heheeeheeee," laughed the quicklings, enjoying their sport.
WHACKUM! went a rock as it bounced off a quickling's head with enough force to then take out a second quickling.
Ranma grinned and picked up a second rock. "Hey, I picked up the spare. Now let's see-"
"Quickly! The overlord will pay good money for these dragon eggs!"
"I thought I saw the dragon following us."
"(Oh, more of those ork thingies!)"
"Hah! Fresh meat for the stewpot!"
CRUNCH! SMASH! PUMMEL! TWIST!
Ranma hefted the large leathery object he'd retrieved from the guy who'd attacked him and set it away from the crunched bodies of the 'ork-thingies'. "(Whoa! Almost lost that egg. Wonder what lays eggs that big around here.)"
"Thank you, warrior, though I was only holding back my attacks until I was certain my eggs wouldn't be in danger."
Ranma stopped, realizing he was completely in shadow. Then looked way up. "(Oh. Hi there. You're a big dragon, ain't ya)?"
CRACK!
"(I didn't do it,)" Ranma quickly said.
"She's hatching!"
"(She is? She is! Oh, good,)" said Ranma, relieved that this meant he hadn't killed baby dragons. Probably be really bad karma.
Aurieste saw that the human was relieved. Such a good person to not only rescue her clutch but to be that concerned over the safety of her eggs. Even if the language was something that just didn't quite seem to translate.
Ranma went over to the egg VERY carefully and saw the little beastie inside was having trouble getting out. "Uhm, hang on, let me give ya a hand."
"NEEEP?!" said the baby dragon, staring into blue eyes a few feet away from her own.
"Uhm, no, that's not your father," said Auriste. "Maybe a godfather."
"Neeee?" said the baby dragon, blinking at the not-the-papa.
"(Well, gotta be going,)" said Ranma. "(Training ya know!)"
Watching the boy running off, Auriste smiled before turning to her daughter. "Such a nice human and a skilled warrior. We'll have to keep an eye out for him."
"RAGGHHHH!" said a pack of orcs, waving blades and cudgels.
"EEEEK!" said the village defenders.
"Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah-ahhhhhhhhh," yodelled Ranma, swinging in on a vine.
The orcs saw the human go swinging past them and off into a forest and wondered who'd been spiking the swill. They could just not have seen that.
"Aw hell," said Ranma, seeing as how his grand entry had just gotten screwed up. Well, maybe if he looped around and went this way.
