So the happiness as she had stepped inside was not feigned as she called out, "I'm home!" and put down her bags.
But her mood was rapidly soured as she heard the tune of a cello being played, which meant that Shinji and Misato were back from the test she thought that she should have been a part of, and the jerk wasn't even acknowledging her greeting. Well, she wasn't about to let his bad manners keep on going, and slipped into the living room to tell the Third Child what proper ettiquette was.
Only to stop in the face of her annoyance to find someone who only held any similarity to Shinji in looks and gender. And since she doubted that he had a hunky older brother, she wasn't about to let this guy with coming into their place and screwing around with their stuff.
Now wanting to make sure that this good looking creep got what he deserved, she picked up a can from the piles of beer Misato kept and hefted it in one hand.
The first that he knew that she was there was when that same can smacked into his shoulder from her throw, stopping his playing, and making him turn to look at her. "Asuka? Why'd you do that?"
His words served to revise her opinion of him from handsome wierdo, to possible good looking stalker. Grabbing a broom, she jabbed the end into his side. "I don't know who you are, and I'm beyond caring. I want you out of my apartment now!"
"But Asuka..."
"'But' nothing! Shinji may be a wimp, but he doesn't deserve to have someone waltz into our place and start fooling around with his cello!"
"But it's mine..."
"Yeah right," she replied with a snort, "That's Shinji's and you ain't him."
"But I am Shinji!"
"Oh great... not only do I have to deal with a burgler, he has to be crazy too," she muttered. "Shinji's shorter, less fit and fourteen years old!"
Putting his hands up, he tried to look innocent. "Listen, it's not what you think..."
"You know what? It's exactly what I think, and a NERV major lives here, so if you don't want to get shot, I suggest that you leave now."
"But Misato's here too..."
"What?!" Asuka screeched, and started wacking him with the broomstick. "What did you do to Misato?!"
"Nothing!"
"Likely story!"
"It's the truth!"
"Coming from a crazy person?!"
Hunched over while trying to avoid the blows, he asked, "Stop it already!"
"Not until you tell me what you did to Misato!"
"I didn't do anything!"
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" yelled the voice of their guardian, and she turned to look at the direction it had come. Standing there in her normal homewear of cut offs and t-shirt was Misato, looking not at all pleased at what she was finding going on.
"I thought this jerk had hurt you!"
"This so called 'jerk' is Shinji!"
"Huh? You go crazy too?" Asuka asked as she held back on her broom strikes, but kept the intruder cowering. "This can't be Shinji! He's too... built."
"There was an accident during the test," Misato stated cooly, "and when we pulled Shinji from the plug, he looked like this."
"But that's impossible."
"But it's the truth."
"Um... Asuka?" 'Shinji' began.
The redhead scowled at him. "Yeah, what?"
"You remember when you and I had to share your Eva when you first came? You told me that you were going to 'show you how it's really done'."
Her whole body just went numb and the broomstick clattered to the floor. "But no one else would know that..."
"But I do."
"That would mean that you're Shinji..."
"And I am. Just a whole lot... bigger."
"I can have Ritsuko bring over the records if you like," Misato suggested archly.
"I... need to go lay down," Asuka murmured and stumbled off to her room while:
