This critter was hard to see, almost like it was made of water or something. Shimmery blue and featureless, like some shadow.
It didn't seem to be stalking him like prey though. He wasn't getting any threat off the critter.
When he resumed walking it skittered along, still keeping a line of sight. A better look of it as it went along and he decided it was kind of a squirrel critter. At least it had a long tail and was kind of squirrel shaped.
It watched the odd human.
It had seen when the Clear Suezo had tried to use its near transparency to attack the human. Most likely the Suezo would have run the human off or knocked him out and then eaten the yummies in the pack on his back.
The human had unexpectedly beaten the Suezo without using a monster and had kicked the Suezo so hard it had landed over thirty yards away!
Being a Nightsickle, the Ripper was always curious about things that it had never seen before.
Now the human was sitting on a rock and eating yummies from that pack.
Slowly it crept closer, sniffing. Unfamiliar scents. Ah, now the human was moving on again.
Hmmm. It left food behind? Stupid humans wasting perfectly good food! Well, the Nightsickle had to do its part now didn't it. Human hadn't even touched this fruit. Ah, succulent. Not one of the dried up things that grew locally. Wait a minute. Human was watching it!
Hissing, the Nightsickle grabbed the remains of the fruit and scurried back to the forest. Human was planning something. Or no. Human was going on as if nothing ever happened.
Fruit had been placed out deliberately?
Humans did not make any sense at all.
Ranma was satisfied now. The critter was some kind of scavenger. Yellowed grass all around, probably a drought, so pickings weren't that great. Probably the critter was following him in case he led it to some food.
Hmmm. Signpost said Taip was another two miles.
