Ranma Rancher: Durahan [Episode 82463]

by Kestral

Ranma continued on, aware of the squirrel-thing catching up with him but not approaching.

"ROARRRRR!" CLANG!

Ranma blinked at the thing which was shouldering its way out of a dirt mound.

"ROARRRR!" said the monster as it charged forward.

"Cool," said Ranma as he ducked under the sword. "Now this is a monster!" A big old suit of animated armor carrying a big-arse sword! None of this cutesy plants or those three obnoxious little walking boxes or something inane like that. This looked cool!

"ROARRRR!" repeated the monster as it started swinging madly at the human who was bouncing off trees, walls, dirt mounds, and itself like some demented superball. It used every manuever it had in the first minute and the maddening human just seemed to be having fun!

Swish "Oh, that was a kenjutsu cleave wasn't it?"

Swoosh! "Missed."

Swipe! "Missed again."

Whisss! "Too slow."

THUNK! "Did that dirt offend ya or something?"

Swik! "Man, you're slower than the tomboy."

Swish! "Maybe ya need to be oiled or something?"

Zoom! "That's pathetic. I gotta Pixie which could beat the, uhm, whatever's under that armor off of ya."

The Durahan glared as best it could, giving the impression of panting despite the lack of lungs or need to breathe.

"Is that really the best ya can do?" Ranma asked with his most innocent expression.

"ROARRRRRRRR!" Swing-swing-swing-swing-swing-swing-swing-swing-swing-swing

Ranma stepped backwards, closing a spiral, smirking.

"Hiryuu shoten ha!"

Ranma was momentarily startled at the amount of force being generated by the tornado. Its size was truly monstrous. It seemed to catch the animated armor by surprise, even more so.

Ranma looked up at the distant dot in the sky and took two cautious steps backwards.

WHANG!

"Sorry about that. I'm kinda rusty," said Ranma to the suit of armor imbedded in the dirt. "Oh well. Thanks for the warm up."

The Nightsickle slowly walked to the armor and then looked at the human walking off then back to the Durahan.

Somewhere in its mind it realized that if the trainer was that formidable, what were his monsters like?

"Go, Kas!" Faisal called out. "Star Shower!"

His Kasumi spread her arms out, gathering magic in her hands, then spun, sending a series of blasts into the target.

"Not bad," called out Ranma from the low fence. He'd spotted a Pixie type and had wanted to see what the little winged girl could do.

"She's only Class D, but she already knows Somersault, Raycast, WindyLance, Starlight, Fairy Dust, and Star Shower," said the trainer with evident pride. The Kasumi did a couple of dance steps, evidently happy at the implied praise.

"How far to Taip?" Ranma asked.

"Another three miles," answered Faisal. "You're not another Ranch Challenger?"

Ranma scratched his head. "A who?"

"Ranch Challenger," explained Faisal. "Someone who gets their kicks going around to monster breeders and beating up their monsters. Usually right before official competitions."

"Oh, gotcha. Nope, not one of those," said Ranma, figuring it was kind of like a dojo destroyer type. "Nah, I'm looking for rumors of some kinda legendary healing spring."

"Oh that," said Faisal. "Take a break, Kas. I've heard of rumors and such for a few years but nothing ever confirmed. The biggest thing I've heard about it was that guy who came in last year claiming he'd found it but that the spring was guarded by some insane hermit."

"The guy in town?"

Faisal nodded. "He works at the Training Gadget shop. Ask for Lazlo."

"Right," said Ranma with a glance at the flying target the Pixie-type had been shooting at. He might be able to rig something like that with a rope and... hmmm.
