And he just happened to be coming out of the dressing room, looking rather unused to what he was wearing. "Um... Is this okay?"
Straightening up, she looked him up and down, allowing a deep grin to spread across her face. Shiinji in borrowed clothing had been good looking. Shinji in a tight blue long sleeved t-shirt, black trousers and a light leather jacket looked simply mouth watering.
"Misato?"
Shaking herself free of the thoughts that had been occupying her mind, she smiled at him. "You look great."
"I do?"
"Oh yes, you do."
"If you say so," Shinji told her, and shifted the jacket on his shoulders. "It's still a bit strange for me."
"Don't worry about it! You'll be knocking them dead!"
"I will?"
"Uh-huh," she replied happily. 'Including me.' "And with this special card, we'll have you outfitted in no time at all!"
He looked warily at the card that she had pulled out and frowned. "Are you sure that this is okay? Spending all this money I mean."
"Relax. All I had to do was to explain that you had no clothing that would fit you, and they practically gave me the card on the spot!"
"Oh... okay..."
"But now we have to get your wardrobe all set up."
"But I've already got some jeans, t-shirts and stuff from before. And we've just got this..."
"We need to make certain that you're completely outfitted. No sense in running out for a nice suit when we need to go to a dinner party."
"We don't go to that sort of thing."
"Details, details. Besides, just because we haven't gone yet doesn't mean that we won't go later."
"Ummm..."
"If you're going to go to a dinner party, why not just ask me?" inserted a smooth male voice.
The major's eyes darted to the individual who'd spoken and scowled. "Kaji."
"The one and only," replied the unshaven man from where he leaned against a rack of clothing.
"What are you doing here?"
"It's a men's shop, and I'm a man."
"Just barely."
"Oh, you wound me."
"Don't I wish," she muttered. "What do you want?"
"Other than to enjoy your sparkling company?"
"Run out of girls to pester?"
"But you're the only one for me," Kaji told her smoothly, "And to prove it, let me buy you lunch."
"No way. I have better things to do."
"I still have to get Shinji his new things, and he and I will go to lunch."
"Oh yeah, he got hit by that accident. So, did he really get aged?"
"Yes, I did," the young man in question answered.
Kaji turned to look at the speaker and blinked. The rather scrawny boy had gotten tall enough to look in the eye. And the slump in the shoulders was was gone, if the look in that lithely muscled frame was right. Before, he'd have laughed if someone had told him the Third Child could stand up to him, but now he wasn't so sure.
"Looking good kid."
"Thanks. Misato helped me pick it, but we're supposed to keep on looking for more. I don't have anything to fit me any more."
"I can see why. You've gotten... bigger."
"I know. I even ate a lot at breakfast, and I'm still getting hungry now. Which is nice since it let's Misato and me go and have a big lunch."
"Are you now?"
"Yeah, and then comes more shopping later," the Third Child told him," Maybe I can even get her to buy something for herself. I want to think about her too, rather than just myself."
"That's good of you," complimented the older man.
"Just being polite. She's being real nice to me, and I don't want to bother her without trying to do something nice for her."
Watching them both, Misato frowned in consideration. It almost seemed as if Shinji was... annoyed with Kaji, and was fighting for her. But that idea was a bit off setting, though it did set a warmth in her heart. She just wondered how it would end, as it seemed that things were rather... strange at the moment.
But it did in the next few moments as:
