Ranma stared at the giant rose on the arc above him in awe as he entered the school's front yard. When he'd been told that the rose crest was the school's unofficial symbol, he doubted it at first -- after all, roses were flowers, and that was for sissies. However, after seeing them with his own eyes on that crest... majestic, untouchable... almost out of reach, as if not really there....

And thus, little Ranma changed his mind about roses. All their traits were what his mother was always telling him about manly men, so the two had to be related, somehow. Maybe it meant that manly men appeared to women like beautiful roses that you just had to touch?

Ranma wasn't sure about the answer to that question, but he figured that hanging around roses wouldn't hurt. And where else to do that but in a rose garden?
