Keiichi had the good sense to stay in the background and keep quiet. The less attention on him, the better.
"Goddesses," said Urd, spinning a ball of crackling energy briefly on her fingers. "Past, present, future. You should have paid more attention to that sign."
"How can I be engaged to some kid martial artist in NERIMA?!" Megumi's voice was getting uncharacteristically loud. Of course, her comfortable little worldview was getting shaken about and she was now facing even further evidence that 'everything she knew was wrong' to paraphrase an old song.
"There were signs in Japanese on my door, stating that I was in conference with a High Level Entity and not to disturb me for anything less than Ragnarok," pointed out Urd. "Belldandy herself told you not to interrupt me."
"B-b-but... I dropped my keys in there before we had dinner," said Megumi.
"Of such things are fates made," said Urd. "Honestly. You've seen Banpei, you've seen things moving about without more traditional methods of explaining, you've seen lightning on days with clear skies."
"Yeah but -" Megumi's voice trailed off as things started clicking together in her mind.
"She made excuses, plausible ones within her worldview," said Peorth as she took a seat. "She fit everything into her paradigm as best she could and ignored the rest."
"As for Ranma Saotome," said Urd, "he's desperately in need of relative normalcy. Hence this engagement. As to the mechanism, a fluctuation in the past has provided the documentation."
"A what?" said Megumi, beginning to go into shock.
"Your father now went to school with Genma and the two hatched their plan to engage their families before your father went on to graduate school or Genma Saotome met Happosai. Thereby giving your engagement seniority to all the others that have accumulated."
"Excuse me - 'others'?" Megumi thought this sounded like she'd gotten involved with a playboy.
"His father has been unwise," said Belldandy, being polite as almost always.
"His father's idea - most of them," explained Urd. "Actually, Ranma hasn't chosen any of them at this point. At one point the two fathers were going to let Ranma choose one of the Tendo daughters, but then they yanked that decision and decided Akane would marry Ranma. That the two protested merely proved, by their standards, that the two were fated to be married."
"So they're idiots," summed up Megumi. "All the more reason for me not to get involved."
"Now now, it's already set up," said Urd. "Though I've got a potion here that will make it easier for you if you think you need it."
Megumi chose this time to faint, the accumulated revelations being a bit much.
"She took that better than I thought," admitted Urd.
