And then she opened her eyes to see Belldandy leaning over her with a compress and a pleased smile. "Oh my, you're awake!"
"What happened?" Megumi asked, afraid of the answer.
"You fainted, but we understood that it was a lot to take in."
"It was..."
Urd leaned in and smirked at her. "Well, it's not every day that you find out that you know a trio of real life goddesses."
Realising that it hadn't been a dream, the college student gave a groan, but this time it was more of a whimper.
"Don't worry about it! Everything will be fine!"
"Easy for you to say," the human girl groused.
"True... But then again I'm sure that things won't be so bad."
"What makes you say so?"
"Because even though your fiance does have a lot of people around him who are skilled martial artists, they most likely won't try to hurt folks who haven't trained... Unless the people to hurt are crossdressers who pop out of various inanimate objects. Or wannabe voodoo practicioners who try tricks to get the girl of their dreams. Or..."
"You're not helping, you know," Megumi told her sourly.
The Norn of the Past shrugged. "Sorry about that, but just understand that as long as you don't try and fight, they probably won't try to hurt you. And just to make sure, I've got something to help."
"Like what?"
"This."
Looking at it, Megumi saw a simple pendant on a thong hanging from one tanned hand. "What is it?"
"A protective amulet charged up with my own special enchanments. It'll help you keep the troublemakers from trying to hurt you. Put it on, and you won't have to worry."
"I'm not sure about this..."
"I am. Now, let's get it on you and see how it looks," Urd replied, and slipped the pendant around the girl's neck before she could stop her. "See?"
"It seems safe enough..."
"Would I do anything that could lead to a problem? Of course not!"
"I hope so..."
"Still, you have to admit, it does pay to have a brother who's dating a goddess."
For a moment, Megumi stared blankly at her, but then a realisation set in. And when it did, her eyebrow developed a tick as she thought about her sibling and what she wanted to do.
Usually, Keiichi wasn't happy for all the work Tamiya and Ootaki dropped onto him, which would tend to be in the form of whole projects. But rather than complain about the two older guys leaving him to do the work while they relaxed, he was happy for the opportunity to keep himself occupied and out of the way while his sister found out about her engagement and how it came about. It wasn't that he didn't want to be there for her and be a responsible elder brother, but he knew what would happen when she realised what he'd been keeping from her.
"KEIICHI!" echoed through the temple grounds in his sister's tones.
Obviously, she had put two and two together, which meant that it was time for him to find a more secret place to hide.
So, in the hopes that he could avoid Megumi's wrath, he dashed for his life while:
