Cosmos' voice was wintery as the north wind.
Athena blinked as she walked---elegantly as usual, of course---though the Portal.
"The Blue Plate---What?"
Though it wasn't quite clear whether the last part was directed towards her fellow Goddess' words. or the gigantic ceramic pot bubbling away merryly on a table with lots and lots of white-green leafy vegtables piled on top...
"Oh. ---Well, you know. All those timelines where Crystal Tokyo is the only place habitable by human life on the entire planet Earth, and it's peopled almost entirely by drones."
Athena thought about it. All that magical energy convieniently and attractively concentrated in one package---
Actually, the term "Blue Plate Special" seemed quite appropiate, now that she thought about it.
"As soon as they attract the attention of something or somethings more powerful or more cunning or just plain more lucky than the defenders are, they're lunch. And sooner or later they will, you know. ---Not to mention that the entire set-up is just, so, so---"
"Umbalanced. Ugly. ---Painful to percieve?"
"Something like that. And it's so much worse now, now that they're so many of them!"
Cosmos sighed. So did Athena. Life wasn't easy, sometimes. Even for Beings such as them.
"And look at those. Crystal Tokyo isn't the only place human life can survive, true, but the population is still more-or-less drone-ish. A slightly higher chance of fighting back enemies, because they tend to have more people spread out, and more potential fighters, but it's even more attractive to any major energy-vamp types in some ways."
"Drone-ish people seldom make good defenders, or good anythings for that matter."
Except good cannon/spell fodder and such, of course.
"The Red Plate Specials, than?"
"A good a name as any, I suppose. Though why any version of me would think such an Un-Balanced set-up is a good, or even an acceptable, idea..."
Oh, she Knew, actually. About desperate situations and despair and the Need To Make Everything Right so nothing would ever go wrong again. Among other things.
Except that was impossible. There was Order and there was Chaos, and both were needed if Life was to continue.
Things always changed and would keep on changing, to the Multiverse ended. And perhaps even after that. Time could be strange that way.
"Most versions of me manage to get out of the Perfection-at-any-costs trap pretty quickly, even if they were unlucky enough to fall into it in the first place, you know." Athena nodded.
"---I know. Perfection and Life just do not mix. The minute somebody declares something Perfect is the minute things start going downhill,after all. Why bother trying to improve it if something is supposed to be Perfect?"
"And untouchable. Gaah. Perfect ideologies, Perfect Leaders---Pure and plain idiocy, in my opinion. There is no such thing as Something So Perfect That It Can't Be Improved On. For mortals, or us, or anybody."
"I agree with you on that, as you well know. Ahh---Cosmos?"
"Hmm?"
"What is that?"
Cosmos blinked. Ahh. The pot.
"It's---a Hakusai and chicken Nabe, I think. With negi and all kinds of mushrooms and carrots and potatos and onions. And beans. And miso and soy-milk"
Athena googled a little. Both negi and onions? Ahh, well.
"I thought your favorite comfort food were the curries."
"Usually, they are. This is what one of my mortal-mothers used to make me. Though something seems to be missing---"
"What's a nabe without rice or noodles? Or nori Or garnishs."
Athena murmured, conjouring a ricecooker.
"---You cook your rice with Umeboshi's?"
"Only the soft squishy kinds. They give the rice a nice scent, don't you think?"
"---If you say so. "
"---Athena! Ramen noodles with nabe!?"
