In the deepest bowels of NERV's Geofront, a secret meeting (as if they weren't mostly secret all the time) was taking place in commander Ikari's sephirothic office. Two men and three women stood at attention before Gendo Ikari's desk. The commander was in his usual posture when dealing with others, elbows on the desk and gloved hands steepled in front of his face. Many of NERV's employees called it the Gendo Position™ (behind his back of course).
"Ladies and gentlemen, I have gathered you here for a special assignment" said Gendo "You are aware of the incident involving the Third Child and the new experimental battery for Unit 01, are you not?"
Various nods and "Yes" confirmed that they indeed knew about it. The commander continued to speak "The new internal battery has been taken off Unit 01 and the Committee ordered the abandonment of all related research and inquiries"
Gendo's glasses took an ominous glint "While I respect their decision, I cannot help but feel that there are opportunities in studying more in depth the side effects of the interaction between this power source and evangelions. That is why you are here"
A japanese man in his fifties, wearing a lab white coat "What do you want us to do exactly?"
"I want all of you to study the new power source, find out what caused the incident if you can and most importantly... If what happened to the Third Child can be reproduced in any way. Do you understand, doctor Homura?"
Homura nodded "Yes, I understand. It won't be easy however. We are all already busy on other projects"
"Delegate what duties you can on your subordinates. This is not a top priority assignment but not a leisure project either. Of course, you'll be compensated for your time and efforts"
The scientists smiled. More money on their salary was always good. Some of them thought farther than that. If the process could be perfected, they would have their hands on a literal Fountain of Youth and the Panacea to many if not all health problems! What data had been gathered from Shinji Ikari was very encouraging.
"I must insist that all this must not get out of this room. Secrecy is paramount. Should any of you leak any of this information..." Gendo let that statement hang but the meaning was clear: Betray me, I'll deny everything and have you terminated "So, do you accept working on this project?"
They thought about it for a minute then Homura answered for them all "We accept, commander. When do we start?"
"As soon as possible, doctor. As soon as possible... I have already reserved a laboratory for your exclusive use. You'll find the battery used in Unit 01 and enough LCL to start experimenting"

"Whew, we're home!" declared Misato as she entered her appartment. Shinji was not far behind, carrying several bags ful of clothes.
"Asuka's not home yet" noticed the tired Shinji. He was sure that Misato had dragged him throughout all the clothing shop in Tokyo-3. He discovered he couldn't say no to her for long, especially when she pouted and threw him that look.
For example, she had gotten him bathing trunks. He hadn't had the heart to tell her he couldn't swim. He also couldn't see himself wearing the tuxedo and the spandex tracksuit. The tiny pajamas she bought for him to sleep in were a bit embarassing as well...
He blushed, remembering how she had made him model try out underwear. And she had promised to do the same for him one of these days. It's tough being a sex symbol, he inwardly chuckled.
Well, at least he had a new school uniform his size. It was actually made-to-measure, highschool boys of his size being a rarity if not unheard of.
Pen-Pen greeted the return of his mistress and her mate. IAh, if penguins could talk... "Wark!"
"Hi, Pen-Pen, we're back. Shin-chan, Go put these bags in your room. I'll get us something to drink!" Misato went in the kitchen to do just that.
"Okay, Misato" Before he could comply, the doorbell rang. Shinji put the bags down and went to answer the door "I'll get it!"
The ringing was very insistant "Yes! I'm coming!" Shinji opened the door only to see...
