A Cat's Yarn - A Tournament of Fighters: Mission Briefing. [Episode 86546]

by Secret01

"Please listen Ranma to what I'm about to stay. It is very important."

The cat goddess waited until she got a nod from Ranma then continued.

"Around 1800 years ago humanity was developing technologies and sciences but at the same time they were killing the Orochi. Orochi was the guardian and spirit of Earth and therefore connected to the Earth. When the humans began to destroy the Earth, for example cutting trees and mining minerals they began to kill him. One day Orochi could not take anymore and needed to make a decision on what to do.

"Orochi had two options he could decide on. The first was to kill all of humanity and let himself and the planet heal over the ages. The second was that the humans could sacrifice 8 maidens known as the 'Kushinada Maidens' which would heal him. The blood from these pure women would heal him."

Bast stopped when she saw the horrified look on Ranma's face.

"Ranma, you must understand that those were the last options he had. Orochi first decided to reason with the leaders of the kingdoms of Earth but they refused to listen. So he made the hardest decision he ever had to make.

"He decided to ask Kami-sama to give up his godhood and descended from the heavens. He became a demon and slaughtered village after village so he could end humanity and save his life. After all of this the humans were finally ready to listen. The humans sacrificed the 'Kushinada Maidens'. As he prepared to take the last one three so called heroes stopped him.

"It seems the last maiden was in love with a man who was the leader of a clan of warriors. The man's clan name was Kusanagi. He had a power over the spirit flame known as Magatama. He went to the Emperor an made a deal. He would kill the Orochi and save his love. All the man wanted was land and wealth. The emperor agreed to the proposal. Kusanagi and his cousin from the Yasakani clan plus a priestess named Yata helped defeat the God.

"The plan was simple. Get the Orochi drunk and in his stupor the three heroes cut of his eight heads. Eight warriors emerged from the cut off heads. They were his powers over the elements given flesh. Earth, Fire, Lightning, Water, Wind, Mountain, Thunder, and Light were the elements. They were called Hakkeshu. These eight warriors had no battle experience and were easily defeated. The Yata priestess sealed the Hakkeshu and the remains of the Orochi seperately and that is how the Kusangi became heroes.

"For about 1200 years the Kusanagi were pampered and revered as the heroes who took down the Orochi. The Yasakani and Yata clans got nothing for their assistance. To the Yata it didn't matter but to the Yasakani it did. Over time the Yasakani clan grew furious and I don't blame them. It was due to a team effort that the Orochi was defeated not a single man's effort. At the moment the head of the Yasakani clan headed off to free the Orochi and ask for some power so he could defeat the head of the Kusanagi clan and prove his clan's might.

"The problem to that was that the Yata clan moved the seal around and Yasakani had to free the Hakkeshu. When word of this got out the Kusanagi asked permission to attack the Yasakani clan and permission was granted. Without a second thought the Yasakani clan was almost killed off and few survived. One that survived was the head of the Yasakani clan and he would be imprisoned for the rest of his life to wallow in misery.

"When the Hakkeshu heard of this they attacked the prison and freed Yasakani. To make a long story short the Yasakani and Orochi made a deal. The Yasakani would be the ninth hakkeshu. In return all Yasakani had to do was destroy the Kusanagi. Still in grief over his family' death he accepted the offer. He became the Hakkeshu of Flame and his Magatama which had been a crimson red turned purple. He called it Magatami no Orochi. He changed his clan's name from Yasakani to Yagami in honor of the Hakkeshu."

Bast paused and took a deep breath. To her amazement Ranma was enthralled by the story.

"Yagami trained for little over a week day and night to build up his strength and power before he attacked the Kusanagi clan. On the 9th day he appeared at the Kusanagi home and declared a blood fued. The Kusanagi clan attacked Yagami and were easily killed. As word spread the Yasakani clan that had survived came and attacked the Kusanagi as well. As the rest of Yasakani clan came their Magatami changed into Magatami no Orochi.

"Now the Kusanagi clan was the one headed for extinction until the Yata clan interfered. They paralyzed both clans and killed as many of the Yagami as they could. Many Yagami escaped including the 9th Hakkeshu. The blood fued still continues to this day.

"A little over a decade ago a tournament was started to see who were the strongest warriors in that world. It was called the 'King of Fighters' tournament. The Kusanagi and the Yagami clans met in this tournament and had battled it out. Over the last few tournaments however an organization called NESTS has experimented with genetics and cloning and has nearly perfected them.

"The warriors of this tournament has barely defeated these clones time and time again. However this time they are doomed to failure. The warriors' strength is amazing but the clones' strength rises more than the warriors' does. If nothing is done these warriors will die and these clones will kill every living thing on the Earth.

"Your mission is to help these warriors and defeat these clones once and for all. Good luck."
