More to the point, she and everyone at the breakfast table at that point realized that something was up with Akane when Akane sneezed. It was rather obvious because between AH and CHOO there was a *pop* and Akane was no longer at the breakfast table.
For Kasumi, Nabiki, Ranma, and Genma - none of whom had been looking directly at her at the time - it was mainly a sort of 'out of the corner of one's eye' view of Akane turning to a pure white silhouette before she was abruptly not there.
For Akane it was even more jarring as she was holding a ricebowl in one hand, chopsticks in the other, and kneeling as she would at her place at the breakfast table. Instead she was, due to anime universe law or some errant thought on her part, on top of the Tokyo Tower.
Akane considered this for a few moments but was unable to come up with a credible reason for this, with the potential exception of a dream sequence. Pinching herself with chopsticks proved to her that this was not a dream.
Having determined that she had no idea how she'd gotten up here, and feeling a definite chill from the wind whipping across her as she knelt on her perch, Akane turned her full attention to how she would be getting down from her current location.
Akane had been incubating the cold for one day, then down for a second day and night with it. On the third day from her trip to the lab, she had been over it.
Kasumi and Nabiki had caught it at home. Yuka, Sayuri, Miyo, and others at the school had begun getting the symptoms of the communicable stage on that second day after the trip.
Ryoga had spread the disease all over Japan in that time.
On the morning that Akane had begun teleporting, most of the female population of the school had caught the bug and were either in the first or second day of it.
At the same time others had caught the bug. Sometimes with very bizarre effects.
Doctor Moreau hadn't intended for the sudden esper wild talents to bloom, and what were deemed "side effects" had been actually the main intended effect - increased libido, sensitivity, higher metabolism and an otherwise suppressed section of neural pathway left over from the time of primate pack/tribe association.
With the esper abilities suddenly blooming, another factor came into play:
