Pegasus in Japan : The Amazon Avenger [Episode 88103]

by H. Torrance Griffin

The first twelve hours were hell.

Imagine being trapped in a room with 20 million people babbling at the top of their lungs to get the general idea of telepathy kicking in abruptly while residing in the Tokyo-Yokohama metropolitan area to get the general idea.

For most it would be the first step on a decent to madness, but the young woman who found herself so afflicted had three advantages. For one thing she had been trained in the uses of meditation from the time she could walk, and though she was to impatient to about it to satisfy her tutor the lessons served her well in isolating her own thoughts. Another point is that she had already made a transition from an isolated mountain village to one of the largest cities on Earth; and as such she had practice centering herself in a horribly crowded, noisy, distracting maze.

Finally, she was just too bloody pigheaded and stubborn for words. Occasionally a character flaw, it proved a boon at this point for it got her functional enough to return to work by the time the dinner rush was tailing off (although she spent the next day at work replying to customers in her milk tongue... before they had spoken).

It was during her after-hours deliveries that the 'voices' from nearly a kilometer away caught her attention. She would have interfered in such plans had she happened upon the execution of same in any case, but to dump 10,000 yen worth a food and the prospect of a healthy tip and sprint toward trouble on no better information than a snatch of thought and a mental image was well... oddly altruistic of her.

In any case, the gangsters chortling in the alley at the prospect of what would happen once a suitable woman passed did not even notice a _very_ cute girl behind them when she arrived (in their defense, it _was_ a blind alleyway) until she saw fit to greet them.

"Ni-hao." Shan Pu sang sweetly with a fearsome smile as the half-dozen thugs turned toward her.

Then the screaming started.

Meanwhile, another Talent was awakening to her power.
