Aside from the rabid dogs that had turned out to be monster spiders, there were more things that were more disturbing.
First was the convenience store about a block down from the Denny's. The owners, who had been a middle-aged asian couple and their daughter before, were out and looking down the street toward the signs of the disturbance.
Now it was perfectly obvious to the senshi and John that these three were not human. They looked like some sort of dragon or lizard people.
One of them, they could only guess it was the husband, turned toward them and nodded back toward the restaurant.
"What's going on down there?" it asked.
"Uh...Some...dogs attacked the Denny's," Melody said, a little startled.
"Dogs?" the lizard, or was it a dragon, asked. This was followed by slightly widening and then narrowing eyes and then a short growl. "Get inside Xian."
"Bu..." the younger lizard started to protest.
"Now," her other parent snapped.
And with a nervous look toward the Denny's she hearded the child into the store. The other lizard/dragon, the one that had first talked, nodded toward them and followed, closing the door tightly behind him.
And that was just the first. Spotted here and there were beings of fantasy life. They were far and away outnumbered by the humans, but they were common enough to be easily seen and tended to cluster together, obviously out of a desire to have someone that they could relate to and could relate to them.
Crystal watched carefully, understanding, now, why Susan had flinched and cringed so often on the way to the Denny's. Just what the hell was going on around here?
But that didn't matter at the moment, because she could feel Susan shaking behind her. She turned and saw the former Pluto shaking fervantly and glancing around distractedly. Crystal had seen that reaction before among bystanders in youma attacks.
"Calm down, Susan," Crystal said, pulling the woman off to the side. "Just pull yourself together."
"We're just normal people," Susan said shakily. "Just normal people. Don't you see? No powers! No magic! And something came with us, something came with us! It'll kill us and we won't be able to do any..."
Harley stepped in and slapped the woman across the face to shock her out of the rant before looking around to see if anybody was listening.
"Quiet," Harley snapped angrily. "Do you want everybody to look at us."
"Haru...Harley," Crystal said. "Stop, now. Calm down, Susan. We'll get through this. Listen...uh...I'll stay at your place tonight, okay? Tomorrow we see this other doctor and she'll tell us what's going on." She looked around for any sort of help.
"Ah, man," John muttered to himself. "I'll come with you, in case anything comes up." But something else occurred to him. "Hey, kid, I thought you lost all your powers like the rest of us, how'd you know to use a sword like that."
"Amtgard, every Sunday," Heather said. "I have four orders of the warrior. I've handled live steel before."
