Setsuna's Fault: The life and times changeth [Episode 89763]

by Kestral

Sailor Pluto groaned and tried not to look. The Paradox Storm had not been sentient, at least in human terms. Nor was the local fabric of space/time that the storm had existed in. Like a simple animal or more primitive intelligence though - it had been able to recognize a "thorn" causing it pain, and had removed it.

No Sailor Wars. Instead there had been an ancient kingdom, and that ancient kingdom had had magical warriors all right. Along with those magical warriors had come various Senshi-analogues, however these had not been frontline fighters. They hadn't had superpowers of that sort at all, having only minor magical talents - and mainly of a support nature such as Saturn's healing touch or Mars' uncontrolled bouts of clairvoyance.

Now in the present, the good vs evil battle was again beginning. Now the Senshi were in the essentially cheerleader roles their earlier costumes might have suggested.

Nine planets had been relegated to second, even third-string roles. How mortifying.

Pluto watched the eroding bubble of time defense and then decided to get the worst over with. How bad was the life of Usagi Tsukino now that she was no longer the princess?

"It's not my fault," insisted Mamoru Chiba. "The first I heard of it, I'm being dragged over to this over-emotional geezer's house with some trumped up story of how he and my father suffered through years of abuse when they were starting out their careers. Then this bit about being ENGAGED."

"Sounds rough, at least she's cute," offered Ranma.

"Cute," agreed Mamoru. "Nice. That does count for something. It's just that..."

CRASH! CRUNCH! Tinkle!

"What was that?" asked Ranma.

"oopsie"

"Probably the rest of my dishes," said Mamoru. "She's a walking disaster area."

"I feel for ya. At least nothing like that happened to me," said Ranma.

"AHHHHH! WHERE'S THE FIRE EXTINGUISHER?!"

Ranma and Mamoru paused for a moment before rushing towards the kitchen.

"How did Mamoru end up sixteen?" asked Sailor Pluto. "How did Usagi end up nineteen?! Why do they all know each other before Beryl ever showed up?!"

"Why ya talkin' to yerself?" asked a red and black wolf as it walked past. "Just another crazy girl in a time bubble, eh?"

Sailor Pluto looked wildly around but there was no sign of the furry creature. "Hah? Must have been a hallucination. Overwork. Yeah that's it."

"Princess Topaz?"

"Quiet, fool. Am I not the number one Witch Of The North and foremost collector of Pretty Girls? I have selected the one to be my next collectible! And I will keep her safe, even if the rest of the world is blown away, I will keep my collection safe."

"It isn't that, Princess Topaz, there's someone scanning for us out of some time bubble."

"And I think I saw that big dog again, Princess Topaz!"

Princess Topaz glared at her minions. "Quiet, you two. I have to practice my Evil Laugh and Villainous Exposition, you know."

Setsuna blinked. How had a villain from Detatoko Princess gotten into her nice neat timeline? Waitaminute.

A red and black wolf stuck his head briefly out of the Gates Of Time. "It's because it isn't a shojo manga story for fourteen year old girls. ShoNEN. Late high school and college and up age group. Different rules."

"HAH?!" said Sailor Pluto, looking wildly around. "What the heck? Who said that?"

There was no answer, no sign of wolves talking or otherwise anywhere nearby.

"I really need to take a vacation as soon as this is over," said Sailor Pluto.

Ranma leapt from the fourth floor landing to a roof, to a retaining wall, and then to the street. "Reacher?"

A wolf materialized out of the shadows. "Someone was spying on us.
