Bigamy: Excerpts from Nabiki's diary the Village Histories [Episode 90325]

by Deric

In the beginning it was difficult, but Ranma eventually got used to taking directions and following directives from me and Kasumi. After all, for many years it has been customary for a Japanese wife to take care of all the things to do with the household while the husband became just the worker drone.

His father was very instrumental in that. Not that Genma was aware of this, nor did we let him become so. Ranma was so used to other people doing his thinking for him (eg., his father or mother) that it was easy to give him four bad choices and the one better choice that we desired. For him to pick a bad choice was always a possiblity, in the earlier years. Sooner or later, though, he found that having us doing his thinking for him let him devote most of his thinking processes towards his first love, The Art.

No, we weren't jealous over that, as much as one might believe, or as our youngest sister would definitely have been. We didn't need to be the center of attention. Well, as long as he was out of the house. Family was important to him, everything he did was for the family, after all. But he really wasn't the 'family man' type, until the first kid was born.

To watch him teach our children quick reflexes and simple blocks while they were still infants was, if not awe inspiring, certainly fascinating. He would poke them in the stomach until they got irritated with it and blocked, using an arm or leg. Then, he would slowly build up their speed until wherever he would poke they could and would block, almost instantaneously. That was before they even started walking.

Once they did start walking, he would gently push them off balance, until they learned solid stances and balance. Oh, he caught them before they completely fell over, didn't mean to make it sound heartless. But he did make it into a game, and all the kids loved playing with their daddy.

With all the use of reflexes and muscles that most children don't start on until later in life, it was no wonder they were more athletic and advanced physically than the rest of the children their age. We, however, didn't let them become mindless jocks, as their grandparents did their father.

The boys, that is. The girls, as Amazons, would never be allowed to become mindless, what with me and Elder Cologne teaching and correcting them. They would never be allowed to become as idiotic as their aunt Shampoo had been as a teen. Cologne had learned from her mistake with her great grand daughter.

Once Cologne passed her 150th birthday, the Village Matriach decided to semi-retire. Oh, she still taught, but with a council of elders that she had trained from their teens, any arguments that appeared were merely petty bickering. Anything that really was important was handled swiftly and decisively. Most of the council was truly astonished (except me, duh) when she passed Matriarch duties over to Kasumi. Kasumi was the one who founded the new village, after all. Not to mention that anything Kasumi really wanted, Kasumi got. Including her (shared) husband. Kasumi was/is certainly nobody's fool.

She proved that after she seduced Ranma, roped me into it, and got rid of his other fiancees without having Nerima blown off the map. Like when she...
