It had been the fight for the soul of the one friend he had. Someone who'd seen past the crippled flesh and seen him as something that didn't cause girls to shudder when they first saw him.
For HER sake he'd have done quite a lot, even if he struggled to maintain his tough guy who didn't need anyone manner. He'd made a few circles of protection, then used what he'd learned of Hotaru's visitor with what he'd been able to determine of magic. If the demon possessing her manifested such and it had this sort of effect, then a counter-pattern could be determined. Once you had that, contacting something opposed to Mistress Nine was a definite possibility.
He'd taken the chance for Hotaru's sake. He hadn't thought too much of his own life prior to meeting her, and while he was pretty sure he wasn't in love with her or anything like that - he could admit to a serious case of like.
He had made contact in fact. The apparatus had made the connection and burned out in the process, but now HE was the connection.
He'd used the power to Exorcise the entity of Mistress Nine from Hotaru.
Of course, in order to do this he had been fairly careful as he had direct evidence of demonic possession with Hotaru. He didn't think transferring a demon from her to him or removing hers while leaving him with a new taint would have been a good idea.
