Akane closed her eyes, hugging her friends lovers in a last display of affection, waiting for her death like a true Japanese, with calm, stoicism and acceptance. The tears had been caused by dust in her eyes, really.
It never came. The flaming piece of rock merely passed through the japanese sky, headed for the South West. It had been a close call though, Akane would swear later she had felt the heat from the meteor when it flew past Mount Fuji.
Realizing she was still alive, Akane threw out all pretenses and openly wept in relief. Sayuri and Yuka did the same and the lesbian trio joined in a group embrace. Around them, cries of joy and thanks to the deities erupted.

This particular fragment of the meteor bypassed Japan entirely. A few minutes later, the citizens of Hong Kong saw it approaching. The small meteor fell right in the City. The ensuing explosion was the equivalent of a thermonuclear explosion of roughly ten megatons.
The People's Republic of China's main doorway to the World and major source of capitalistic profits was wiped off the map in an instant. Millions were killed in the initial impact and others would follow because of its after-effects. The loss of industrial capacity and business power would have far-reaching consequences and not only for China.
By striking so close to the Sea, the meteor had also generated a huge tsunami. A big chunk of land and real estate sunk under the Sea. Taiwan was entirely devastated by the giant wave coming from the mainland. The Phillipins, Malaysia, the Indo-Chinese peninsul, Corea, Okinawa and Japan were also on its way and would soon suffer.
And it was only the beginning...

Back to Mount Fuji, the radio was still playing and informing Akane and others about the situation.
"...meteor hit Hong Kong. According to satellites, the City is just... gone. The wave of water created by this latest impact will expand and submerge almost all the Far East. Some parts of Asia will probably be submerged by the Sea for... Experts are calculating it as we speak and they're not very optimistic. They pray that no pieces of meteor will strike the North and South Pole, which would worsen the flooding problem..."
All person present and within earshot grimaced at the possibility. Japan would be almost completely covered by the Pacific Ocean in such a case. Akane was particularly afraid of that scenario since she still couldn't swim.
"...the death toll is astronomical and still rising. Never in History has Humanity faced such a catastrophe. While our immediate extinction is no longer of actuality, things will never be the same anymore..."
